[quote author=“electrobot.808”]Just out of interest I’m wondering why the skepticism?

Ever heard of a box set announced, postponed, postponed again, promised soon, very soon, almost there and then cancelled?

of course it is great news about that forth album, i hope there will be also a masterpiece like other three, but are they changing their plans, the future of shpongle, which was quite clear some time ago? i hope i’m wrong, but i smell a little bit of commerce here…

That’s right point taken but they must have been pondering about this over the past 9 months so maybe that’s why the delays.  I too would love the box set but at the end of the day it’s only the first three albums + remixes and the odd unrealesed track and now where getting more new material.

Maybe years down the line they may do a X4 + 1 box set, whatever happens it’s gonna be good :D

That’s certainly a possibility. But then instead of mentioning it, even vaguely, they maintained the hype by ever pretending the box was coming very soon. I’m not sad at all there’s a fourth album, I’m disappointed at the communication (of lack thereof) around that whole thing.

[quote author=“Adam Brown”]Especially seeing as the inspiration for the fourth album is “we’ve got a few months up our sleeves now that the live show is cancelled

And the way the announcement is written reads like Twisted folks are mightily pissed of Raja Ram doing this .. No live show, box set cancelled, sounds like there’s been quarrel in Shpongleland .. In that context the announcement of Shpongle 4 sounds just weird to me.

i think you all need to realize that twisted records is a super small operation, run by, what seems to be, mostly the artists on the label. i could be wrong though.

both of us work for record labels (very successful ones) and we can def. attest that shit doesn’t always go as planned; and that’s when the labels are run by strictly business people. i think everyone needs to chill out and give the guys at twisted a break. they work their asses off trying to put out ONLY the best, which the succeed at doing beautifully, while also trying to play shows and write music.

so what if we’re not getting a shpongle box set… just buy the albums and make your own box set… a 4th album is infinitly better then the set… and honestly, shpongle’s still young enough that a box set is more just for fun then neccessity.

take it from people that know though… running a label is NOT easy and the fact that the twisted camp has done as much as they have while doing everything else they do all around the world is very impressive.

so cut em a break and be happy that we’re getting a 4th shpongle album smile

we know we are!

that’s just our 2-cents.

(well… slice two’s 2-cents, but he assumes slice one would agree with him… hahaha)

[quote author=“electrobot.808”][quote author=“stormowl”]i await this album with more than a hint of skepticism.

Just out of interest I’m wondering why the skepticism?

each sucessive album has been more “accessible” and watered down…however they are all masterpieces.  eventually their luck will run out.  i feel that they are now deciding to milk the shpongle project for it’s popularity, and i’m more than a little nervous about the direction the sound will take…especially considering Raja and where TIP.World has gone…

nevermind the fact that the circumstances surrounding the announcement seem more than a little odd…

i say shpongle should go out with the 3 albums they did, at the peak of their popularity and not degenerating into mediocrity like i feel the 4th may do.

and for for all that is good and holy in this world, it’s been 10 years since the lone deranger.  it’s time for hallucinogen 3.

I would have to completely disagree. While the first 2 Shpongle albums are in my opinion damn good music, they are considerably empty when compared to Nothing Lasts. In Nothing Lasts there are just so many more sounds and things going on. More action than the other albums. For example…If Are You Shpongled is a shack, then Simon and Raja built upon that and made it into the mansion that is Nothing lasts.

Maybe they are milking it for its popularity. It would be sad to think that the 4th album, should they go through with it, be a flop, but if they increase the “kick assness” or at least keep it at the level or Nothing Lasts, then I think we have nothing to worry about…and Nothing Is Lost.

I for one would love to see every non compilation, “not on an official album” Hallucinogen song (think Space Pussy, Bubble n’ Tweak, Mi-Loony-Um etc..) along with a completely new set of song on a brand spankin’ new 2 CD album.

This whole fighting over which album is better and agree disagree is crazy.  the whole point of shpongle is that its anything and everything you want it to be, but no matter what its good!  each album is different, i dont think you can say that one is better than the other, they all have their own feel and are all amazing.

shpongle is meant to be a personal experience, a group experience, more than just music.  you should take shpongle for what it is, some of the best music you can find, no matter what the album or track name, or length or style.

i think simon and raja would want all of us to just enjoy it for being great music and an expression of their thoughts.  i think we should just all accept that they are all good, and that sure, some people might like one or two over the other, but thats what makes people different, personal preference, and shpongle is able to cater to everyones perference by being great music.

sorry for the rant,

thanks

I totally agree with this also, maybe it’s a simple fact that some are missing that they’re doing the 4th album due to the love which everyone has for the project and instead of pulling the plug giving that bit extra back to the fans?  Of course there will always be the negative side of thought which say ‘ah milking it’ but I think SP & Raj have alot more about them than to do it for the sake of it.  They wouldn’t if they thought it was going to go down hill - they are not sell out people.

If you look at all the posts regarding the Shpongle project there’s alot of passion and emotion there i.e. samples, which is the best track etc.  Everyone was pretty gutted a few months back at the thought of no more albums so I think maybe staying tight lipped and enjoying the ride is the best stance - for me anyway

And yes I can appriciate the Hallucinogen 3 problem but that’s the way it goes for the mo.  SP did say he was prefering working with others for the time being. :D

PHEW!!!

This is tremendously exciting simply because I don’t think I have more faith in a single group to deliver the goods than I do in Shpongle. Honestly, considering how different each of the three albums were, I can’t imagine this album sounding stale or proccessed.

The early 2008 projection sounds awful optimistic, but honestly, I’m willing to wait however long. This is tremendous news, and I look forward to any more news regarding it.

Well, i can imagine this album containing more 4/4 beats than all other Shpongle albums.
