I wonder why Raja pulled out of the Brixton gig…I starting to get a wee bit worried bout the guy…perhaps health reasons?

Yeah the announcement seems to blame Raja but there must be a reason for him to say no. Maybe he’s tired from live gigs and wants a break, who can blame him. He gives more energy to a show than most half his age do.

[quote author=“Corporal Clegg”]I would have to completely disagree. While the first 2 Shpongle albums are in my opinion damn good music, they are considerably empty when compared to Nothing Lasts. In Nothing Lasts there are just so many more sounds and things going on. More action than the other albums. For example…If Are You Shpongled is a shack, then Simon and Raja built upon that and made it into the mansion that is Nothing lasts.

Maybe they are milking it for its popularity. It would be sad to think that the 4th album, should they go through with it, be a flop, but if they increase the “kick assness” or at least keep it at the level or Nothing Lasts, then I think we have nothing to worry about…and Nothing Is Lost.

Empty?  I would disagree, but this goes to show how different the Shpongle listening experience for all of us.  From my perspective, NL was the weakest of the 3 albums, though still better than most of what is in my collection.  It lacked the continuity I found in the first 2, and it anything perhaps tried to pack TOO much into one album.  That said, if this 4th album is as good as the 3rd, I’d be a happy camper.  More like the first 2—a blissed out camper.

Looking forward to hearing more new on this.

I remember reading in the old shpongle.com site that Nothing Lasts was going to be the last Shpongle album.
I was really sad to hear that cause Shpongle (and Younger Brother) for me is the only innovating music band during the last 10 years.
This is a personal opinion but when i listen to them i find it hard to compare them to anything else. It’s what i call music without boundaries, without labels and names….
The box set wouldn’t satisfy me and i would only get it for the new material.
So now that i hear about the 4th Shpongle album… i feel much better now…i really do!!!!!!!!
:D :D
So Simon, Raja, Benji and all you guys who make us happy i wish you the best and i wait for the rest (albums) :D

But you’ve got to remember that Simon did a lot of ambient-experimental stuff in the years preceding Shpongle, and so I’m definitely certain that the demise of Shpongle would result in the genesis of a NEW, FRESH project, maybe working with someone new.

Did you know, a lot of the songs from the ill-fated Metal Sharon project were dub style?
How cool would it have been if he were able to complete that?

Shpongle has been done, I want Simon to stretch his legs a bit.

I’d argue that each Shpongle album has been so different that the 4th album is likely to be very fresh and new.

I have a few things to say.

I think it’s funny and a bit sad that some people get off telling artists how to make their art.

^I think it’s funny that i’m going to get flak for a statement like that^

I LOVE shpongle

Simon Posford is the most innovative electronic musician I have hear
Everything is beautiful and WORTH IT, especially when Simon has lent it some of his wisdom.

I hope Raja is doing well and I envy him for such a long, strange trip.  I wish him luck in his transition.

I want to hear more YB, Hallucinogen, and Shpongle and whatever else the Twisted crew release.

Hear Hear.
I totally agree.
People need to let them do what they do best - ie making music for our minds and souls, not just music to tap our feet to. Everything I have ever heard on the twisted label (good and - in EXTREMELY rare occasions - bad) has been innovative, interesting and astounding. I have unwavering faith in twisted artists like Ott, Si P and many others, and ANY news on forthcoming releases, be it in the form of a box set, new album or even new alias, is good news to me. I am overjoyed that shpongle will continue their saga, and hope that the fourth album is as different and as uplifting as the others were.

Secondly, I for one could not possibly pick a favourite shpongle album, and I agree that they are not just music, but experiences. (god i wish i could visit shpongleland…)
As different as they are, certain tracks on each album make me feel something completely different, and mind-blowing. I can honestly say with pure faith that there is no way these artists would sell-out. They dont make such incredible, diverse music simply for the money or fame.

Good luck Si P and continue doing your thing (whatever you decide it to be).

ps - cant wait for ott 2!!!!!!

To say one album is better than another is to try to define what the “Shpongle Sound” is… I really don’t want to do that. Im sure the next album will be different, but still great. Regardless, Ill buy it without listening before hand.

THANK YOU SHPONGLE!

I understand…but a full album is quite different than a single track collaboration.
I think it needs much more effort and time and chemistry etc to create a full album project that’s why i mentioned Shpongle & Younger Brother only.
The only truth is one :
There’s no such thing as the best band or artist or project or album…
The best for YOU is what YOU like the most.. :D
and the best for SOMEONE ELSE is what THEY like the most.. :D

The only little “mistake” they made was to announce their end and then the Box Set.
Maybe it’s our (the fans) fault too!!
Maybe we put much pressure on artists so they are forced to announce these things before they ‘re really ready!!
Do not forget that they have no managers and marketing companies etc behind them..they have to do almost everything by themselves.
So i’ll just say to let them be… and they’ll give us their best !!! :D

p.s. It was just to hard to read that Shpongle was going to end… smile

But Metal Sharon was supposed to be a full album too; they’ve got more than one track under their belt, it’s just they havn’t been released yet.

Your comments about effort, time, and chemistry are correct though, and thats exactly why I’m worried about Shpongle 4. The first three albums had at least three years between each of them, and it was as if each of the albums was ‘meant’ to be…

Meanwhile, Younger Brother isn’t going to be released until the middle of the year and the Twisted crew are predicting Shpongle 4 to be finished by the end of the year! And the only reason it’s being made is because “Simon and Raja have a bunch of spare time due to the live show cancellation

It just doesn’t sound as poetic as it should be, I mean are their hearts really in it this time?
