I’ve been Shpongled by Shpongle ever since I heard ‘Rumours of Vapours’ on TIP 7 (1996). The ironic part of my first exposure to that sound was the day I heard it… not only was I properly “shpongled” but it was the same day I heard about the news from the meteorite from mars that was rumoured to have life. So when listening to the Shpongle track, it had this sample “It’s 3 o’clock. What may well be the most important afternoon in the history of this world. Humanity’s first contact with an extra terrestrial species.” .... mindfukker and a half!!!!! The same day that extraterrestrial life was announced was the day I heard that… the synchronicity was (and still is) beyond words.
The track itself was gorgeous and weird… something new. When I then heard Beyond Closed Eyelids on the next TIP cd of that series (infinite excursions), I realized that Shpongle was the Filet Mignon of Psychedelic Music. Are You Shpongled? did not disappoint in the least… and Nothing Lasts… is my favourite CD to listen to for a full ride into Audio heaven.
I really can’t even compute not liking Shpongle. For me it is like trying to square a circle.
