Great shpongletrack… timeless classic.
However, one thought is occuring to me each time I hear it:

The common perception seems to be the that the voice at the beginning of the track is saying: “this is a circular vortex, spinning etc…”

However, when I listen closely, I can’t help thinking it sounds more like:
“This is a SPHIRCULAR vortex… spinning… spinning… spinning… spinning… spinning… like this”

... Maybe its me just being completely geschtonkenflopped… But it DEFINETELY sounds like the guy is saying ‘Sphircular’... knowing the ‘linguistic mystic’ nature of Raja Ram and Simon, this makes perfect sense to me . A linguistic contraction of the words ‘sphere’ and ‘circular’ which becomes ‘sphircular’.

Then again… It might just be me.

Discuss…  :D

I’d go for that also and this is one of my fav tunes along with the rest of them.  It’s quite straight forward in structure but timeless and beautiful and leads you into the album perfectly.

YUM :D

It’s a lot more clear at 5:57, and it probably is “sphirclar”.

Well picked up on Sleepwalker. Would have to agree it does sound like Sphircular. Wonder if Messers Posford or Ram can answer for definite clarification.

It really does yea… thought about it before, and figured that it might just be something with the filter, but what u say makes perfect sense…

And btw, now we are talking linguistic mystic - am i the only one hearing him say:
spinning…k…. spinning…k… spinning..k… like there is an edge to the g at the end, and it makes it sound like he ends with a k instead of a g?

it’s all just the accent if you ask me

PS: I’m convinced it’s Simon’s voice saying the vortex line… one of the only times we get to hear Posford on one of his own recordings!

And while we’re on the subject, there are a lot of instances where I’m sure it’s Raja’s voice.
examples:
Room 2 Om: The words at the start and the end of the song
When Shall I Be Free: The quiet speaking at the start, before the sitar kicks in
