[quote author=“Joshua”]That was really cool. the quality is pretty low but it was pretty fresh and inspiring music haha. Where’d you get it from and how do you know it’s simon’s??
Believe it or not Simon and I recorded this together when we were 12 or 13 It was recorded on little 4 track portastudio that Simon had (Fostex I think it was).
We had to do the drums round at a friend’s house in our village since neither of us had a kit at the time. The guy who owned the drums was actually away that day so we had to persuade his mum to let us do it. We used 2 totally crap mics, which was the total number of mic inputs on the 4 track. One of the mics was one of those big silver vintage things that people use in music vids that sounds like you’re recording underwater. We laid the drums down first which kind of dictated how the song would go.
The rest of it we did at Simon’s house. We slowed the tape down and did the bass track on a Yamaha DX7 so we could make the bass line faster
I recall doing the guitar track while Simon controlled the delay pedal. That’s Simon on the slide whistle. Fun times
I think Simon made an alternate mix of this but I highly doubt he’s still got it! Mine is squeezed after the end of an Elvis Costello album on an ancient 90 min cassette which is disintegrating, so it’s probably a good thing to to preserve it here in cyberspace.
We did a few other things when Simon got a 16 track but unfortunately I don’t have them.
