may i be first to shout out a huuuuuuuge thankyou for the twisted crew for lasts night’s party. The 10 ten year anniversary was good, but this…... man, it was on a completely different level. the main dancefloor was amazing, loads of space to dance, excellent crowd, incredible lights and that huge screen was a work of genius. The whole place just looked awesome. The music was top notch, every single act I saw I was just in utter bliss dancing away. Some highlights though:

Hallucinogen in Dub- the part with the flamenco guitarist was absolutely sublime, fantastic touch that really made the set. Gamma goblins at the end was brilliantly done, got the whole crowd jumping up and down like crazy people.

Younger Brother live- what can i say? this would have to be in my top 5 live band performances of all time. i went to see roger waters do dark side of the moon etc, and this was on a par with that. in fact when all i want kicked in i heard some guy shout next to me something like: ‘fuck yeah, pink floyd eat your heart out!’   the song you played after all i want as well (dont know the name) where ruu was singing and it just built and built into that crescendo, tears were coming out of my eyes it was so emotional. those who didn’t manage to catch this set are going to be blown away by the new album. any chance of YB doing a set like this again?

Eat Static: Been a fan for some time now, but this was the first time I’ve seen them live and all i can say is that it was the PERFECT way to end the night, the sheer amount of psychedelia they were blasting just melted my brain. everyone was going absolutely nuts on the dancefloor and their brain at the back was one of the coolest visual displays i have ever seen. was seriously not expecting it be that epic. I hope they get it out again for glade festival :D

So all in all a fantastic party, and simply one of the best nights I’ve ever had out.  so a big shout out to all the twisted crew who made it happen and also made my year so far

..... yes but what happened to shpongle?
The best track of the set was Jam and Spoons ‘Follow Me’
Everyone went mad!!

I loved Ott, Hallucinogen In Dub and then Younger Brother was completely mind blowing. Somehow think that Prometheus should give up DJ ing and Trance and concentrate on the stuff he likes and is good at…. and KoxBox…well if you enjoy boring, repetive music they are for you. Eat Static came on with some great music but by then….....

mmm

i agree with squig. the start of the night was brilliant (i cannot wait for OTT’s album, he seems to be unable to do any wrong) and HiD was also great (i loved the guitarrioso) smile

YB’s set was really good too, although i couldn’t shift the thought that the sound quality wasn’t great - it was missing a lot of the midrange, no matter where in the room i stood. a shame, but not a major problem, as the actual YB set was great as expected smile smile nice one pulling off the liveness - i hope this paves the way for more electronica with live music, something i feel is sadly lacking in trance these days.

however, after YB it wasn’t amazing to say the least. i’m convinced the sound engineering was rubbish here, because even the 3 prometheus tracks i love off the new album (arcadia, 9th, and polyphonic) sounded empty, muddy, and lacking. the same continued on until the end, sadly, with koxbox and eat static’s sets the same. simon’s dj set also suffered, although i enjoyed the tunes, especially the classic beachball/age of love moment :D

did anyone else have a similar feeling about the sounds? i even listened to the prometheus tracks on my mp3 player just after leaving, and they sounded as phat as they should have…

First up….. what an awesome party. I reckon it was the best psy-trance event I’ve been to in years. From 9 until 4 there was nothing but music and artists that I love. I really like the way the whole evening ramped up slowly to Prometheus and Shpongle, instead of just being full-on from the word go (like every other party you’ve ever been to). It was really good to be able to warm up and enjoy some different kinds of psychedelic music for a change and having musicians playing drums and guitars etc on stage was a real novelty - something I haven’t seen with electronic music since the halcyon days of leftfield way back when.

The venue was awesome with lots of space, a definite lack of queues, lots of friendly people and the decor/staging was magnificent. I think Twisted really got this party right and the whole event had a different vibe to the 2 parties last year. The sloping dance floor was ace as you could sit down and still wach what was going on on stage and whenever you wanted to dance there was plenty of room everywhere.

I did think the sound was a bit off at times, sometimes a bit muddy but Brixton doesn’t have the best acoustics as Simon mentioned in that interview as the reason Raja refused to do Shpongle live there. So it’s not much of a surprise…. it is primarily a rock venue anyway! I still thought it sounded pretty good throughout.

As for the acts. I was gutted cos I only got in for Ott’s last song. Would have loved to have heard the whole set but had spent rather too much time with friends outside faffing about with certain things. Hallucinogen in Dubb was awesome…. as expected. Can’t think of another way to describe it, I really hope they can manage a few more shows - how about bringing it to Glade folks? Please put out a live cd of the HID set… maybe a double CD with younger brother…  who were great, I’m not sure what to make of the all-singing new stuff but am waiting to listen to the album first. It was really Pink Floyd at times and that suits me down to the ground. The end electronic part was up to usual Younger Brother standards with Monkey juice and The Finger. Spot on it was!
Prometheus was excellent - really great to hear a lot of the new album played out. Again I thought it suffered a bit from the sound but that didn’t really dampen how good the music was. Shpongle was, as usual, fantastic and I thought Simon played a good selection from the Shpongle catalogue…....the beach balls were a happy addition too!

And then….. Koxbox and Eat Static… hmmmmmm I didn’t like the new Koxbox album that much and this is about the 3rd time I’ve seen them since and the music is just so uninspiring to me. I don’t think the sound was doing them any favours as the bass was getting really muddy and whump whump sounding as well. It just wasn’t getting my juices flowing at all. When Eat Static came on I think Koxbox had put such a damper on everything that I wasn’t very receptive to them at all which is a shame as I’ve heard other people rave about their set since.

Anyway, overall the night was awesome. Massive Kudos to Twisted for putting on such an alternative psy-trance event and I hope there are more in a similar vein in the future. Maybe it’s cos I’m getting older ( I realised the last time I’d been to a rave at Brixton academy was Return to the Source back in 1995 or maybe 1996) but I had much more fun at this event than I’ve had at in door full-on psy events recently. Much more like a festival and so much better for it.

Thankyou so much for this twisted. I am truly in awe of this party and can’t wait for any live material to become available so i can re-live it! Cheers!!!!!!

We trust twisted and only go to parties very rarely anymore. The last twisted party was one orf the best ever. Three things make up a proper party: Music, sound, vibe. Most important is sound. How dare you invite us to your party twisted, with a 30 pound entrance and have present this sound to us with no shame? I am not going to swear or whatever, though i really want to. Was anything wrong with the sound? Please let me know. Tell mne something was wrong and i’llshut up. Shit happens, i know. Of all the kiddies there on Friday, did anyone realize how BAD the sound was? Not even you Simon? Frank? What are you people doing? Don’t you realize the responsibility on your hands? You know if this was the old days people would swear at you and i don’t know what else? Who do you think you are? You used to be lookep up on, but you can as easily become gardbage in our eyes if you become like those you criticised when you were young, idealist and truthful. What the hell was that Twisted? If you have one bit of honesty left come out and tell us something went wriong, with the sound system, the organisation, dont know…something… If not just stay put, and THINK you are happy by being praised upon by a crowd that obviously does not have a clue what these rituals are all about, by little girls who want to substitute Justin Timberlake for a psy Timberlake twisted sound and who will never realise what a shitty sound system can do to your brain. You know what i am taling about, lets see what you answer, it could be fun. I think we all understand each other boys. The Gods, positive or negative are not pleased with you this time, you fucked up, no vibe, no energy, just messed up brains and little kids coked out of their heads thinking this is a trance party.lol. Let’s just hope that can correct what happened. If not you could end up remixing for Armin Van Buuren, maybe even Tiesto if you are lucky guys….is that what you want? Lets see…maybe it is…

Well I think that |-MAOinhibitor is in a very emotional state, very raw.

But did Twisted provide the sound rig and do the sound engineering?
That is a very important question.

Everyone has to operate within a framework - Twisted just wants to give their fans and supporters something back, and they have to operate within the existing milieu. Unfortunately it appears that it is very very difficult in this day and age to put on a fantastic free party. Those days are long gone, buried under tonnes of red tape and new legislation.

Did I have a good time at this party - YES - it was an amazing experience for me, and for many others. But lets not kid ourselves. In retrospect and from reading other forum posts it is clear that the sound was not up to the mark, and this may have marred some of the great performances on the night.

Ultimately we all have to respect the Twisted crew for giving something back to the people.

Thats…... hostile.

Jesus, chill out. I didn’t think the sound was anywhere near that bad, and it hardly made a difference to the amazing energy and atmosphere of the place.

jesus christ, someones taken himself way too seriously. you’d have thought that someone who had written all that would maybe have the expertise to offer up some suggestions rather than dribble a load of rather disturbing insults. Personally i think everyone realised that the sound wasn’t amazing but we were all there to have a good time and everyone made the best of what we got right? no way was i gonna let a bit of bad sound ruin my twisted evening. another thing is i’m kinda insulted about all his comments about little kids, i’m 19 does that mean i don’t know what i’m on about to this person???????? i think not

the weird thing for me was that the sound seemed perfect for ott’s set, and also HiD. it only started to get messed up during YB and then very noticable for the rest of the night… maybe some hippy leant on a switch they shouldn’t have?

well, i’d love the see HiD again sometime anyway, and also YB with the full band, on a decent rig! also, pleeeeease get skylon out asap, from what i heard it’s going to rival blumenkraft and HiD. for me, ott is one of the best producers working at the moment smile
