guess you need a login to read this, so here it is:

Hello all. New here. I joined not only because I’ve been a huge fan of Bjork’s work for years, but also because another artist who I respect equally has expressed an interest in collaborating with her. For all of you who know, please support this thread, and for those who don’t, please find out!

In a recent interview, Simon Posford of groups Shpongle and Younger Brother expressed a long standing wish to collaborate with Bjork. He is widely regarded as one of the most well respected producers of underground electronic music today. Shpongle is revered by fans and musicians alike, and acknowledged as some of the most cutting edge and intelligent contemporary music to emerge in the last ten years -a sublime, psychedelic mix of electronic and acoustic, with a wide variety of ethnic influences. Younger Brother, who will release their second album next month, could arguably be the next incarnation of Pink Floyd, and that’s no exaggeration. Their record label, Twisted, represents the pinnacle of quality modern music.

Please check them out at http://www.twisted.co.uk

Shpongle’s myspace can be found here:

funnily enough, this thread showed up right under “what creative direction do you want to see Bjork take?”  :D

so here’s the latest reply:

Ok… I got their latest album Nothing Lasts… But Nothing Is Lost and I can’t think of any way they could colaborate with Bjork
I mean with a few exceptions, this sounds like an underground dance album from 1995… Nothing really caught my attention… yawn…

pfft..you gonna take that shpongleheads??!!

I’d say, whoever posted that comment needs to give this more than one listen.

But I’m not surprised, really. To ask people on that forum to get into Shpongle would be like asking a neo-conservative to watch all films by Michael Moore: it’s not going to happen.

So this is not the end of it. Let’s hear this from Bj

I think it would be a great collabloration as Bjork sings in a dis jointed way and her style is very different.  I bought her first ablum and enjoyed in but haven’t bought one since - not for any particular reason.

Probably most Bjork heads are to familiar with psychedelic music or haven’t had their minds expanded enough to appriciate the depth of it - just a thought.

I think it’s only a matter of time before Posford is approached by a very well know artist for him to produce stuff for - if he does or not is another question as he said in the interveiw he got into it to remain underground which is cool.

This must be a hard decision to make for artists as it then puts them in a different awareness bracket and the potential to loose alot of fans and gain more of a different crowd.  For example in the early 90’s William Orbit produced some great ablums called the strange cargo series which were mostly electronic and ended up producing an album for Madonna.  :?

well maybe i was being a bit overzealous, anyway, a long shot is still a shot.

and i agree with you bot, only a matter of time, but if “fans” are going to stop listening because he’s collaborating with a more well known artist, then they’ve got USC (underground superiority complex), and didn’t really appreciate the artist and his judgement in the first place, IMO. bjork might be more well known, but i would hardly classify her as mainstream. perhaps she’s unique in this respect. doesn’t seem to be many genuinely talented artists that are known to the masses nowadays. but those that are are the best chance someone like si p has of reaching a wider audience while maintaining artistic integrity. talent and vision do not necessarily have to be marginalized.

still can’t believe that comment about it sounding like a dance record from ‘95. what a load of crap. everyone knows it sounds like a dance record from 1992.

Am I the only one who gets tired of hearing Michelle? I mean, sure, she’s a great vocalist, but like EVERY psytrance song with female vocals is Michele Adamson. You want a little variation, you know?

I’ve never listened to Bjork. I’ve heard the name thrown around before, but I never went and checked it out (which is very unlikely of me). I think I’ll go check some of it out.

And as far as the comment about ...Nothing is Lost, although I’ve only heard maybe a few tracks from it, I greatly enjoyed what I heard.

Of course it sounded good, its Shpongle!

That comment is blasphemy!

Blasphemy I say!!!  LOL
