I’ve always thought that Twisted are original and innovative in much the same way as Pink Floyd were. Obviously they share a lot of common ground, what with the whole psychedelic aspect to thier music, and Twisted artists often admit that they draw inspiration from Pink Floyd (who hasn’t?), but to what extent do you think this is true?

Having seen the Younger Brother set at the Brixton Academy, and for that matter, the Hallucinogen in Dub set too, I was reminded of Pink Floyd on several occasions. Once or twice I heard Ott’s synths sliding up and down melodiously in the background, which made me think of David Gilmore’s wicked slide guitar technique on those cool horizontal guitar thingy’s that has become a staple sound of the Floyd. It seemed that the YB set was more along the lines of Psychedic Rock than electronic dance music, but then that electronic edge was still there, adding even more to the music. It was truly incredible.

I also believe that were Pink Floyd to come into fruition today, in our electronic era, they would be doing pretty much the same thing, and Hallucinogen in Dub, shpongle, and the new YB sound, in my opinion, makes this very clear.

What do you lot think?

I wasn’t at Brixton, so I can’t say. I haven’t even heard enough of Last Days… to really have an idea.

However, there is a vibe with the new music that is fiercely different than previous projects and carries a spirit of the 70’s psychedelic scene. Is it Pink Floyd? That’s about as lofty a level as any psychedelic group can reach, and it appears that the vocals (no offense to Ruu in anyway, shape, or form) are a long way away.

That said, the new sound is wonderful in it’s own way and there are certainly parallels to be drawn.

From what I’ve heard of the new YB and of course Hallucinogen in Dub album the guitars vibes sound very dreamy along the lines of floyd.

Posford has said that floyd are an influence to him.  I would like to see the sound developing into the 70’s rock/psy sound..

ok i’ll bite…what do you mean the vocals are a long way away? do you mean skill-wise, lyrics, or what? call it hype, whatever, but just like phish and the disco biscuits are reincarnations of the dead, i see YB as the embodiment of floyd..it’s the same spirit, man.
*puff*

When I listen to All I Want it reminds me of Floyd very much :D

Damn good stuff.

I’m confused about what your trying to say with the vocals being a long way away.

on the vocals note- I think that the floyd themselves had shaky moments in vocals, i mean dude - roger waters cant really sing. he’s awesome, granted but when he sings (especially live - like at live 8) it sounds like he’s taking the piss. David gilmour has a beautiful voice, but so does Ruu, though the vocals werent really the main part of the comparison i was trying to make, so i’ll stop there.

anyways, have you all heard the si p collaboration with david gilmour and alan parsons? its makes me feel all warm and fuzzy hearing them all on the same track. Just imagine if shpongle or YB and the floyd made an album?! (although we’d probably be made to wait. and wait. and wait again.  jokes. )

hehe

I really think “Ribbon on a branch” (watch video at youtube), sounds a lot like Pink Floyd. It gives me much of the same vibe as Echoes from live @ Pompeii, which is quite a feat, since that’s one of my favourite tunes by far.

In my opinion, YB will be the Pink Floyd of this milennium :D

It may be a very interesting possibility to have Ru singing a track or two on the next Shpongle album - who knows?
