We all know a lot of the psy that comes out nowadays sucks.  If you read this forum, you know that Twisted puts out some of the best stuff out there, so you have good taste.  I wanted to start a topic so that people can recommend other good albums.

I’ll start off.  An album I just got that I’m liking a lot is “Sounds Cool” by Sattel Battle.  Okay, now your turn.

First Album release of Sienis. From A Nutter Perspective read the review on psyreviews http://www.psyreviews.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=543&Itemid=46

A very fair review of this guy’s first album. I think there is alot of good stuff in it.

Hoopy Frood - Psychonaut. First non-Shpongle psybient/psydub/psychill album that has REALLY grabbed me. It’s as much influenced by bands like Ozric Tentacles and Pink Floyd as by Shpongle and Ott, and is some really interesting stuff. Samples here: http://www.myspace.com/froodster

Also anything by Shulman or Bluetech is good.

I’m really into the Ultimae label at the moment which is more electro ambient style but very very deep. :D

i can second that. Mr Tobin has delivered the goods yet again. Awesome album.

Also check out BT’s new one: ‘This Binary Universe’. One of the best ‘ambient’ albums to be released in looooong time IMO

Asura has a new disc that’s pretty nice; I definitely like it better than his first two.  Atmoworks just released an album called ‘10,000 Headless Buddhas’ by The Elf Machine & Foy and it’s pretty cool so-called ‘fractal groove.’  They also just released a new EP of Vir Unis and James Johnson called “The Outer Perimeter” which was taken from the practice sessions for Live Transmissions II.  Kettel has a new album out called ‘Whisper Me Wishes’ that should delight all those analogue-acid-IDM-heads who are waiting for the next AFX.  Also, a new release on Matt Hillier’s Virtual Records promises to be deliciously psychedelic…it should be out within a few weeks.  And Hic Sunt Leones has a slew of great new releases forthcoming for our meditative evenings and Sunday afternoons.  I’m most looking forward to Alio Die & James Johnson - Environment 7: Sospensione d’Estate.

The BT disc was decent…certainly some interesting (if not overwrought) technical and musical motifs.  It’s certainly not ‘ambient’ music though.

I’m interested in everybody’s more obscure recommendations.  We all know about the generic psychill knockoffs (won’t mention any names).

Here’s mine for today: Opium vs Jason Corder - The Present Day (Practising Nature)

Somebody requested obscure.

Alamaailman Vasarat - Kaarmelautakunta

They just released a new album, but I think this older one from 2003 is a better introduction.  They have samples on their website if you want to check them out, but download the album, you need to hear the full songs.

The stuff which Matt Hiller (Ishq) has been doing on Virtual is outstanding some the best ambient I’ve ever heard.

For floaty obscure stuff check out albums by Tor Lundavall… :D

A man from Tijuana, Mexico named Fernando Corona records absolutely stunning music as Murcof.  Murcof’s music is difficult to describe; it has a lot of the minimal electronic aesthetics that are common to artists like Taylor Deupree, Alva Noto or Thomas Fehlmann, but what distinguishes it is Fernando’s ability to manipulate snippets of classical instruments, evoking reminders of Arvo Part, et al.  His first album, “Martes,” is a gloomy and enigmatic ride through his world, and sounds like the soundtrack to a very disturbing noir film.  His second album, “Remambranza,” is more of a personal album, as the grief of losing his mother inspired the songs on it.  Consequently, this album has a decidedly mournful undertone that complements his neo-classical aesthetic beautifully.  His third album, “Cosmos,” is slated for release in September.  This album is inspired by the feeling of vastness and awe that one feels when staring up at the never-ending sky.  Indeed, the album does have a very austere and spacy sound to it, with most sounds sounding like they went through a plate reverb the size of a baseball scoreboard, but his beautiful classical snippets once again complement the music to glorious effect.

Anyone who likes the classical-meets-electronica albums by artists like Digitonal, Helios, Deaf Center, Julien Neto or even Max Richter would do well to check out this criminally unknown artist.

Boris Brejcha - Die Maschinen Sind Gestrandet

This was just released.  I think most of you who find twisted’s feirceness as one of their key components will like this disc.  Very hard hitting, very heavy.  One of the things which keeps me going back is the actual melodies they interlay in the bottom of their sound.  I really have never heard an artist go as low as they do while still providing a melodic structure.  But then again they are Germans, and that is where all electronic evolution stems from.

Compilation - The Mystery of the thirteen crystal skulls (TIP World)
Not only for the stellar Shpongle track, but this album is top notch quality hypnotic psychedelic trance from start to finish. A very very very good album.

Infected Mushroom - Classical Mushroom (Yoyo or BNE maybe, can’t remember)
What can I say? Superb album. Full of classics, every track here is great. Very melodic and very psychedelic.

Astrosnautcher - Debut (Space Boogie)
The best album I’ve heard in a long time. Groovy & crazy, it’s kind of neo-goa with similar energy levels than the ‘72 Hawkwind Space Ritual Live. And that’s a LOT. Not a bad track on this one either.

Reefer Decree - Point of You
Something in a bit different style, very groovy and somewhat housy. Still kind of psy. Good fun.

Bluetech - Sines and Singularities (Aleph Zero)
A chill album that I really like.

Eat Static - De-classified (Solstice)
I’ve only heard this for 6 or 7 times now but so far like it very much. Can’t distinquich the tracks too well yet, except for Tractor Beam which ROCKS, craziest track in a long long time!

Also, anything the Ozric Tentacles released before 2003 or so.

:D

I agree, Seb Taylors new ambient stuff Hibernation sounds very promising too.
More chill/midtempo stuff:
Outersect - caldera
Slackbaba - and the beat goes ohm.

for more psytrance I have been listening to
AMD - Bigfish
Error Corrective - fade instinct
Electrypnose - where do we go disc 2. (usuaully I dont like this stuff, but CHECK out that second disc its nothing like his regular sound)
