EVERYONE VOTE for SIMON POSFORD (I don’t know, but I guess if all vote for different projects/artists f.ex: Shpongle, Hallucinogen, Simon Posford etc. the results won’t be as good), so let’s just
Vote for Simon Posford.

no disresepct to the man Si P, because he is one of the greatest producers/musicians i’ve heard in my time…but as i’ve said before I don’t think he’s a great dj.  i know he doesnt claim to be a dj, and while his dj’s sets flow nice, he only spins his own music for the most part.

most of the dj’s out there are consistantly mixing well, finding new music to spin that no one has heard, and really doing interesting things with their sets, like sasha, digweed, and others.

i have total respect for simon and what he does, and no one has come close to his skills as a producer, innovator, and overall musician in the electronic genre, but i cant put my vote in for him as a dj.  i know it would gain him recognition, but i think there are defintely other ways of promoting Shpongle and Simon other than voting for him on a DJ poll, where many other top-class dj’s deserve my vote.

again, these are just my opinions, but i had to throw em out there.

slice one

I fully agree, and I think he doesn’t give a s#it about the rank, Infected Mushroom are no DJs either, and that they make it to 12th position and Simon P to 66th means to me that Simon P also deserves to be that high ranked (or higher IMO).

hehe, i was just about to say that. If infected mushroom can be voted as DJs and get to number 12 then so can Simon. I also think the term DJ in this competition is one that is used in the broadest possible context (ie producer as well as DJ)

No. It’s just a stupid popularity contest, with the winner being the one with the biggest mailing list.

I agree also with this as Simon does the djing as an alternative to his production stuff.

The dj’s for me personnally which deserve the recognition are scratch dj’s such as Dj Revolution and Q bert (x invisible scratch picklez) and many others.

Really these guys spend years perfecting their shit and it’s alot more than just beat matching etc.  But that’s my taste over more mainstream dance stuff. :D

I can understand both points of view but can’t agree totally with either. However, last year an email went out asking for people to vote for simon so as to gain some recognition for the 10 plus years of wizardry he has completed - reiterating your point dr papa. Still I don’t think it is such a bad thing to be voting for someone who has given us all so much enjoyment and entertainment no matter if the competionion is ‘stupid’ ‘commercial’ or strictly for DJs [insert definition here…].

If simon was to obtain a high ranking is this such a bad thing? I find the arguments against this posibilty a lot weaker than those for.

at the end of the day.. The man deserves some recognition.

I guess it can’t hurt to vote. I just think it’s sad that this is the only way for Simon to get the recognition he deserves. It says alot more about the industry than the man’s talents.

I totally agree… it is sad… there should be an awards festival (not ceremony) where all musicians (you know.. that art that takes thought, dedication, rules - and breaking of rules   creativity and magic) of the psychedelic ilk are congratulated for their efforts….but alas we have MTV instead raspberry

There you go… it is a rigged contest. People who appreciate real music, like Posford-fans, are banned from voting. It’s a conspiracy.

It’s like I always say: the true genius is never recognised in his own lifetime.
Simon gets fingered by the industry, John Lennon is murdered - and mediocre hacks like Justin Timberlake and Madonna rule the fucking planet, while lowering the standards of good taste. Baaaaad choice!

I will always prefer the ones, who play from their heart and have the good tunes.
