Am a programmer, so I’m mainly reading such books:
Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object Oriented Software
Effective C++
More Effective C++
Effective C#
Some OpenGL stuff, just bought OpenGL ES 2.0: Programming Guide for my iPad, and have a few more techie books, that I haven’t read yet.

Now, I have a few books that I’d like if someone could recommend in what order I should read them. I just ordered a bunch, and FYI I never took any drugs/psychedelics, except, seldomly, weed. Just mentioned it in case that might influence the order. I wanted to buy LSD: My Problem Child, but couldn’t find it—Anyways, here’s the list of non-techie books that I have ordered a while ago, but haven’t read yet:

Huxley
- Doors of Perception (includes Heaven and Hell)

Leary (Metzner & Alpert):
The Psychedelic Experience

McKenna
- Food of The Gods
- True Hallucinations
- The Invisible Landscape: Mind Hallucinogens and the I CHING

Lemme know!

“LSD: My Problem Child” is probably the best book on the topic. Of Huxley I heartily recommend “Island”, but McKenna has to be your thing (bit like if 2012 is your thing, or grey aliens, or cropcircles etc).

Personally I used to read a whole lot and as such have quite a library, but lately I just read for enjoyment: the Discworld! Best one of those I think is “Small Gods” - on where gods come from and where they get their power from, religions in general and a whole bunch of philosophy. (:

Foods of the Gods is a very interesting concept and a psy classic, definitely worth reading. (The concept falls appart in real world facts like that there are no psy shrooms found in Africa (etc etc) but if you read “hemp” where it says “mushrooms” it could actually have a good point.)

I can’t say my exact favourite, but lately I’ve been much entertained by Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels.. There’s something pretty Shpongled out there, too. smile

Astynax
“Just finished Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.
Simply amazing…!” - I agree, that is one of the best books I have ever read

Hallucinogen
“How about the last book to make you cry?
And the last movie?” - I havent read a book that has made me cry yet, but the movie Sunshine did, that is the most intense movie i have ever seen, very psychadelic, its about a group of astronauts that have to fly a giant nuclear bomb into the heart of the dieing sun

seanzy777
“This thread inspired me to read The BFG again” -lol that was my favorite book when i was a kid, maybe i should read that again too

Gnome Doser
“Ishmael-Daniel Quinn” - This book is awesome, I think everybody should read this book at least once per year
“Fight Club” - I really enjoyed this book also, the movie is pretty good too

Lots of people are saying they have read Doors of Perception by Huxley, but what about his other books?  Ive only read Brave New World, and Island, which is like his counterpoint to brave new world, the yin to the yang.  Island is probably my favorite book so far, about the ideal society.

also ive read
Neither Wolf nor Dog
On Forgotten Roads With an Indian Elder - Kent Nerburn

The Teachings of Don Juan, A Yaqui Way of Knowledge - Carlos Casteneda

The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho (another awesome author)

also, I usually dont read books like this but Micheal Crichton is an amazing author, I would highly reccomend The Andromeda Strain
