so we finally got skylon… and here is slice two’s shortened review of the album…

it’s amazing. seriously. this album is insane. at first, i was a bit bored by the first track, with the same bassline over and over again, but after listening a few more times, it really sunk into me (maybe it was because the first time i listned to it i was walking my insane dog and his energy ruined the track… hahaha). as i made my way through the album, my first thoughts were that this was an extension of blumenkraft… well all that changed after 4, when the album morphs into something completely new and exciting. new fx, new styles, even a song that made me want to go surfing (382 seaside)! oh… and if a movie ever needs a “bad ass” dub song for some dubby lookin hitmen to make an entrance to, they need to look no further than Signals from Bob… that shit is so bad ass i wanted to go out and dub some people up…

it was def. worth the wait and it ends on such a high note that you want so much more… which means ott needs to get his ass back in the studio and write another album fast… GO! NOW! WRITE AN ALBUM! RELEASE IT TOMORROW!

thanks.

my ONLY gripe about this album is this… the rogue bagel mix is no where near as good as the one on the twisted DVD audio cd. the bass is weaker… the vocals are quieter and smaller… the whole song sounds much thinner… almost like it’s a demo of the twisted dvd version (which sound HUUUUUGE and wonderful). its unfortunate cause i LOVE that track… i’ll probably replace the album version with the twisted dvd version… the fact that this is my only gripe should say something about the perfection of this record.

i’m sure slice one will chime in with his thoughts… or not… who knows…

Well it’s all subjective i guess, but I’ve just ab’d them and the Twisted DVD mix is definitely bigger, much bigger bottom end, but it’s also suffering from distortions in the top end (too much compression?). Skylon mix is brighter and smoother, but could probably do with a little more oomph in the lower regions, but I still prefer it.

it could also do with all the fx back on the vocals, and the hand percussion being mixed in a bit better… and other things that we can’t recall at the moment. hahaha

What’s so funny? Do you really think Ott would release a ‘bad mix’?  :?

If anything that Twisted DVD CD version sounded like a demo, alot more rough around the edges… it is also a ‘louder’ pressing, which might be influencing you.

I’ll give you the vocals, they’re a bit drier now, could do with a dash more delay/reverb, but the percussion - quite the oppostite - it’s definitely mixed in better now (there were numerous mid range fighting problems before - at least to my ears).

Anyway noone is right or wrong, if you prefer the original then that’s just preference really. smile

we don’t think he’d release a “bad mix” on purpose.. our camp over here just doesn’t like the new mix… we find it a lot less exciting. it is all opinion.

our crew just doesn’t like the mix…

but we can assure you that the “louder” pressing isn’t influencing our decision smile

regardless, the rest of the album is immaculate.

The Twisted DVD version of Rogue Bagel is indeed a bit more “heavy” and perhaps “epic”. The chorus -if you want to call it that- lifts you up alot higher.

But personally I think the Skylon version is better, because as said earlier…it is smoother smile
