OK now, my criticism is unwarranted. It’s a really beautiful album. I love Rogue Bagel, though I’ll never understand the title. I thought bagels had been invented by New York City jews. All I hear is North African. The Maghreb. The “Place of Sunset,” the West. At least in relation to Mecca… Beautiful sounds. Thank you, Daddy Ott. Live long & prosper…

Ott’s song titles are in general very difficult to understand in terms of meaning. In interviews he often states that titles are references to places, events and people he have experienced. Like Sommersettler is from his previous hometown I believe.

PS: Off-topic, I have never heard the name “Ott” except when talking about THE Ott and his music, but I just saw The Wire season 2 and there is an Ott there very often. Kinda funny to hear the name on TV (although I understand it’s not THAT rare, but still).

Nah, Ott has stated many, MANY times that his real name, his front name, IS Ott. It’s not O-T-T, over-the-top or a pseudoname.

On his website he opens with Welcome My name is Ott. Would suggest his name is Ott.

Discogs use to state that his real name was Ott Langrell
Now it says his real name is Grover Smith….
 
Weird. It’s gotta be a typo, or misinformation.
He has stated time and time again that his real name is Ott…

It never occurred to me there might be so much confusion over my name, but then I suppose I’m used to the sound of it. Probably sounds weird to other people.

In the US people think I’m saying “Hi - my names Art” - like some kind of jazz saxophonist - or sometimes they go “Ought?”.

Maybe it would all have been easier if my mum had called me Dave or Colin but then I’d have had to think of a name to release my music under and I might have ended up with something crap like “Fractal Mandala” or “Astral Chakra”.
