One of the things that distinguishes twisted music to me is the unique sounds they create.  I want to hear what some of your favorite sounds from their tracks are.  I’ll list two of my faves.

One of mine definitely has to be that funky synth sound that comes in at the end of Stretch Tastic (comes in about 6:15).  Awesome melody and I love that crazy sliding brassy sound.

Another of mine would have to be that panning sound towards the beginning of Scanner (1:00).  Really unique melody and the way that sucking sound bounces from left to right is so psychedelic.

So many to choose from….
but I’ll name a few.

The synth that comes in at 1:58 of 382 Seaside by Ott.
Kind of a decimated fm rhodes sound…. Absolutely gorgeous.

The vocal in I Am A Freak by Younger Brother.
Words wont give it justice, so I wont try to explain.

and of course my absolute favorite is Ott’s signature “toy harmonica flute” sound.
You know the one. It’s in almost every track.
Oooo! and the filter sweeps on his percussion! YA!  :D

In Deranger I love the way the music all folds back on itself and then turns into another bit whilst still being the same but not the same but - Oh that is not the best description I could have given of a noise really is it? but I hope you know what I mean, noise morphing, that is what I likes, I was trying to describe it to my husband one morning after a colourful evening at my friends house, it was all a bit arm flayly and ‘this bit goes like ewooewww, then it twists around then goes wwweoowe, without the sound being distorted into a backward noise” See?

And Otts Queen of, breathy oboey bagpipey thingio noise, I likes that too.

I love the liquid drippy sounds on Gamma Goblins from The Lone Deranger (even better on In Dub!) they make for some great visuals in the right state of mind

Simon has a lot of trademark sounds that I love…

* Seamlessly changing the time-signature of a song (as featured in Divine Moments, Horrorgram, Sleepwalker)

* Gated vocals (as featured in The Sixth Revelation, Molecular Superstructure, etc)

* But most of all, I love it when he puts a vocal or effect through the “Posford washing-machine”... (as featured in Outer Shpongolia, Crumblenaut, I am a Freak, Divine Moments, Stretch-Tastic, etc)

Couldn’t agree with you more.  I saw somewhere that he described Shpongle as sounding like “nothing you’ve ever heard before,” and that is always true of the vocal samples, I love all of them.  Another one that sounded like nothing I had ever heard before is the vocal sample from Big Tits, that one had me amazed the first time I heard it and it still gets me every time I hear it.

ohh man I melt when i hear that sample from Majik “absolutely maaaaaaaaaaajik” - my fav vocal sample of any track.

Well i think there are so many but for me the reason why i like so many of the Hallucinogen tracks is because of the way simon makes his lead synths sound. They’re so powerful and intense yet sound beautiful at the same time. And full of depth, and layering and etc etc. I don’t know, I tried a long time ago to emulate some of those like from orphic thrench and trancespotter and deranger etc but failed pretty badly. I just gave myself a headache haha.

Also i like Ott’s signature basslines. They’re especially unique.

Oh and I gotta mention that my friend’s aren’t into electronic music but after they heard Jiggle of the Sphinx they never shut up about how cool it is to hear that celtic goa mix at the end.

Also, Adam Brown, I never noticed there’s a time signature change in Horrorgram??? At what time/part does it happen? :|

Starts at about 1:05 and finishes 1:40

The synth in the background slowly changes from 3/4 to 4/4

I’m almost positive its not a time change.
He changes the upbeat of the synth to the offbeat of the kick.
He then slowly morphs it back to the onbeat.
It makes it sound like a different time signature when, in fact, its still 4/4.
If you count 4/4 from when the first drum kick hits at :39,
The “timechange” ends on exactly the 4/4 beat at 1:40 into the song.
Also, the synth melodies and patterns are 4/4 during that part, they’re just offbeat.
Its REALLY hard to do, but try just counting the melodies, and not the kick.

I may be wrong, but check again, and listen closely.

The fact that we debate this just proves that Simon is a genius.
I LOVE THIS SONG!

I could swear that synth sounds like triplets at the start!

But whatever it is, I love it
