Hi,

when i found that the new site was online i checked it in IE and it looked okay, the buttons in the top wasnt as sexy as before though. I liked the former Top better.

However i found the site to be a bit hard to navigate since there are too many scrollbars,
and then i thought you can just get rid of the scrollbars and let the site dynamically resize itself vertically.

If you really want to express so much content on the firstpage i think there should be room for it all, not hidden in 6 scrollbars that will confuse people. Better with one scrollbar for everything no?

Then if you really want scrollbars then i advice you should do it in a Javascript because the styled scrollbars only works in IE 6, and who knows if it will be taken away in the New IE 7 since this is not a CSS standard but a microsoft add-on.

i got shocked how bad the scrollbar stuffs looked in FF, and that is a major problem since FF have a huge userbase, like 25-30% of all internet users.

Here’s a screenie in mozilla FF.

I think i would make the content dynamically added vertically, and then if there shows “too much” at the same page then i would have a “read more” link.
But think about it, there is 7 scrollbars on the same page. U even have to use the outer scrollbar to see the lowest ones.

Sorry you dont like it,  Sorry you dont like the header graphic, sorry you were “shocked” by how bad it looks, Sorry you dont like the Navigation as much as before - I am well aware of how it looks in FF, and Safari and IE, and No, I obviously dont think having it dynamically re-size itself would be better or I wouldn’t have built it the way it is.

That stats say that a HUGE percentage use IE, my sincere apologies that 18% of you are going to have to see a grey scrollbar now and again. and that an even smaller percentage of you are going to have to see a bubbly blue scrollbar now and again.

I dont think it looks “horrible”, but thanks for feeback :D

naaw not horrible at all, it was more like a “draw your attention here” topic wink but it looks quite twisted in FF. lol

it was quite original in IE.. i like styled scrollbars, too bad they arent an official standard.
Still personally i liked the beta site better. it was very clean

an advice is to develop stuff also with FF since they are following the CSS and XHTML standards much better than IE. And the standards that are set is there to shape the future of the web. sorry if you saw my remarks as a “bad” work, i tell you it is not, ur making a very good work. Just like to give constructive critisism, remarks that may (or may not) help twisted and yourself with the development of this site and others.

Seems silly to develop a site with Firefox web browser in mind when so few people use it. I understand there are benefits from using Firefox (particularly in regards to security) but, as Calx pointed out, the vast majority of folk use Internet Explorer so it makes perfect sense to design the site for viewing through Microsoft’s browser.

I think it’s important to keep web standards in mind, rather than design ‘for Firefox’ (which isn’t exactly the most standard compliant browser either).  But it’s worth noting that that 18% of Firefox users would have been 5% a year ago - IE’s market share is dropping dramatically, at least in North America.  Add in Opera and Safari users, and that’s 1/4 of internet users.  I barely know anybody who is even a little computer savvy that uses IE anymore, except when forced to (i.e. work, net cafe, etc.).

That said, all sections of this site render fine for me in Opera, Firefox, IE 7 Beta and Safari.  Not having coloured scrollbars is a pretty minor issue (especially considering how some sites render in non-IE browsers) - I still have quick access to the content and that’s what matters.

Then if you really want scrollbars then i advice you should do it in a Javascript because the styled scrollbars only works in IE 6, and who knows if it will be taken away in the New IE 7 since this is not a CSS standard but a microsoft add-on.

They render fine in the latest IE 7 Beta.

ff and scrollbars

I wouldn’t say it LOOKS horrible in Firefox, but the USE of THAT MANY (seven of them in total on the front page) is rather insane from a usability viewpoint. There is a reason why web developers in general aviod the use of that many scrollbars/panes and it is simply because it’s not very intuitive to use.

As a web developer myself I know that sometimes it can be very hard to actually listen to the critique you receive (regarding a design, layout or whatever), basically because you’ve put so much time and effort into your work that you are too proud to admit that a problem exists.

That said, I hope we will see a less cluttered first page in the future, with only relevant info (much like the old site) and a single scrollbar.

Keep up the good work.

I never realized there’s something ‘wrong’ with it.

Ok - it is necessary to use the mouse to select those scrollbars so from a usability point of view it could be someway different.

But all in all it works nicely for me (FF 1.0.8 here)
