I absolutely agree Bose is not the best out there.
But.
For less than $200?
You may be hard-pressed to find anything comparable.

I guess I’m just attached to them on a deep mental/spiritual level.
I’ve had quite a few…er…*ahem*... “spiritual experiences” while listening to music with them. rolleyes
Relistening to that music in the same Bose environment really…brings me back to those “experiences”...
I think everyone here knows what I’m talking about. :D

I would love a pair of high-end headphones.
But at that price range, there’s so much more audio equipment I’d rather have..

The experiences only get more spiritual as more and more detail is fleshed out. wink

I have a similar bond to my Sony MDR-V600s, which are not even close to high-end, and probably inferior to Triports.

For the $200 range, my pick would be Sennheiser HD580s with HD600 grill and HD650 cable.  But I can imagine Triports may sound better out of, say, an iPod; the 580s really need an amp to sound their best, and said amp would push the total price well beyond $200.

I’ll say it again for posterity - high-end headphones are some of the best investment in audio.  You’ll need to spend tens of thousands of dollars on loudspeakers and amps to match the quality you can get on high-end phones.

For the next major event in your life, be it graduation from high school, college, starting a new job, etc…reward yourself with some high-end cans.  You’ll thank yourself every day.

Cloud,to answer your question,no I have not listened to Ott specficly on the Bose Triports,as I do not own them.A friend does have them, and I have listened to some other great sounding albums on them (Dark Side of The Moon and Electric Ladyland) and I still take my Senn’s over them.

Personally,I take clarity over a deep bass any time, and with the Senn that I do own,I get that.

All of that being said,Ott sounds just awesome on the Senn’s that I have, even the little ear bud’s that sound like big ole headphones.

As moody pointed out, everyone’s hearing IS subjective.Mine is shot. Not only did I drive tanks in the US.Army (many years ago) and being in that cramped turret when a 120 mm smoothbore gun goes off,its not really friendly to your hearing.I also went to alot of ‘metal’ concerts in the 80’s (also many years ago  ) and standing 10 feet away from the mains at a Iron Maiden concert is also probably not to good on the hearing raspberry

So my point is,as long as your happy with what you have, hey more power to you!

(oh and yes,I have had a few spiritual experiences in my time Im quite sure 8) )

I am digging this topic…

With my Bose Triports, I agree that there is a litle bit of lacking in the higher frequencies, but have found that they respond incredibly well when I just turn the treble to 6-70%, and I get the crisp sound I want without the bass drowning it out…

I am really curious as to how an amp might help these and other headphones, however. Also as to whether or not there are sound cards out there which can possible achieve the same effect. If anyone knows, would be interesting to hear… maybe I should start a new topic on that one though. rolleyes

Yes sir, Mr. Moderator sir!
Have you any opinion on this subject Dimu?

I have a pair of Shure in-ear earphones. They lack in the bass department…
But they make-up for it with absolutely gorgeous sparkly mids and highs.
Great clarity and warmth.  They’re perfect for listening to Matt Hillier (ishq, elve).
They block out all external sound, so they’re great for noisey environments (car, train, airplane).
I love turning on Jon Hopkins and going for long intimate car rides through the mountains.

Hahaha respect my authorita Cloudman
Yeah I used to have some bose in-ear jobbies.
I thought the bass was fantastic but the highs were lacking but I adjusted the high mid and treble levels and voila they sounded great. Then the damn things broke. So I got me my AKG k240. I believe are a good all round experience for listening to Ott, Shpongle and YB. Even better when I’m in a slightly different frame of mind. However I got them for production reasons mainly.
I hold to the idea of each to their own when it comes to the listening experience. People hear differently as moodysteve said. Like Asydhead I did a stint in the army and there were loud bangs now and then LOL So not to have been affected by that I’d certainly be surprised.

However remember Bad sound quality kills good music.

I’m still using a pair of Sennheiser HD 580 cans. I was given them and while they aren’t perfect they are easily passable. Part of me wants to upgrade to the AKG K701’s, but there’s no huge rush. I love the balance of my 580’s and Sennheiser customer service has been awesome.

I have a head set that I got for x-mas the year before last that I used to play World of Warcraft with. But now I don’t play that game anymore so I just use it to listen to music.

I lost my pair of Old school sony from a few years back that they stopped production.  Sony mdr - 77 they were AMAZING EVERYTHING WAS 100 PERCENT BALANCED. unfourtantely some parts broke ( i was hiking with them ) And i havent listened to any twisted with them but they are the best headphones ever.

Im a bit of a looser, and decided to buy skull candys - skullcrushers. For 30 or so quid ( second hand off a mate ) and am very happy with them, pretty good for the price fantastic noise and volume and the bass is maybe a bit too much sometimes but pretty good product! Nothing fancy but deffo makes music special. Id say they are good headphones.
