Dimethyl, You are full of unfathomable amounts of fail.

Also, had to +1 that lol. Very well put, Cloudwalker.

I agree, my impressions of this album have improved with repeated listens.  Basslines are growing on me, Rent Boy . . . ehhh . . . maybe just not my thing.  In general, I listen to space rock and prog, but for some reason this song doesn’t do that much for me.  Again though, overall insane album.

I’m going to see a Shpongle dj set in mid June, hoping against hope that he sneaks an electronic version of HiD into that set if a rough version exists.  Not sure it does though, only things I’ve seen are the youtube video where he has live instrumentation and now the version from HiD live.

The LSD track is just fantastic! Epic!
I can even hear myself in the intro, though it could just as easily be anyone else. But I was there anyway. Great song!

Yeah it was you dude. I heard it too hahahaha LOL

Rent boy was a little different but it had some magic in parts. I was wondering if it did have anything to with the movie trainspotting though

I held very high expectations (a bad thing to do, I know) for this new live album…

and those high expectations have been rewarded with a very very nice release from the Twisted ones!

Mr Posford (should he be the Sir of the psy world???)

Unbelievable, this is a guy who for what 15 or so years has been giving us pure quality in his releases, it makes it tough to even decide to release anything with a crowd of followers (?) who expect too much and get disappointed because of a live element to the album, which is what I have absolutely loved and welcomed.

I guess this comes down to personal preference, we all share different views and you can’t please everyone, however I like the refreshing take on such classic tracks.

Thanks to Simon for making Hallucinogen a timeless entity that still holds a very special moment in time for me in the psy scene, the Shpongle releases have been equally enjoyed.

Cheers and hears to many more releases by the master of psy, Simon Posford and the great label that is Twisted.

However there were a few more people than Simon involved to make this live set happen. First Ott who produced and mixed the original album and also played at Brixton. Then there’s Jackson, David Nook, Youth who also played at the live set. Then I’m pretty sure Raja has had some involvement with Shpongle hihihihi
But I agree with you on the live element and the refreshing take of the tracks. I can’t get it out of my head.

And to all the others that have made the Live release such a good one, like DiMuTech says, it’s not just Simon who should get all the praise.

I think I got a little passionate on the tail of some critical views…

This is a release I’ll be playing for some time, cheers again!!!

love the album…take it for what it is I say

my only gripe is they didn’t keep the first synth line in HiD the same as in the youtube clip from the symbiosis festival that previewed this song (link below)!  was so hoping for this, bah!!

other than that, great stuff

HiD just popped-up on Winamp as I was browsing…
All I’ve got to say is that this song is fucking brilliant.
I mean seriously…where the buhjeezes did they find this guitarist from?!

And that rhodes line that comes in at 3:05 = pure mental bliss!

Ott, Simon, Youth, Jackson, and Drummer…..Thank you. I love you guys, so very much.

Yep… I am still in love with this album, except for Rent Boy. That track is soooo out of place on this album. I have learned to forgive the simpler bass lines because the live drums do such an awesome job of filling the sound and introducing such an upbeat, live sound. Superbness.

Oh man, jamming this album hard right now. The first few listens I played it off as just another album. But this time, I’m really feeling it. It’s more like an Ott album than Hallucinogen. All the nice sounds that make Ott unique with some of the familiarity of Hallucinogen tunes… but I definitely see Ott shining through in this one. So many intricacies that one wouldn’t notice unless you’re in the right vibe and the right beat… but when you’re there, you see how awesome this is.

Hallucinogen, Younger Brother, Ott, Shpongle… God damn, I love Twisted Records. The best in all music.

* Also, props to the drummer. Nice and crisp.

My 2 cents: It’s not perfect and i would go further and say that any ‘dub’ record that sounds ‘perfect’ is actually more lame! I think Ott did a great job mixing it, as it’s hard to get a good recording in such a short set-up time. As for the show, if you recall, it was actually supposed to be a shpongle live show, but raj didn’t want to play Brixton Academy, but since twisted had already paid the venue Simon Holtom asked if we could do HID instead…. we had 2 days to rehearse, we didn’t have enough material, and we wrote all the new tracks as ‘jams’ during rehearsal. None of us particularly like heavy metal, but we all have a sense of humour, particularly in music, and it made us laugh! Even the name ‘rent boy’ is ridiculous… It’s unlikely the new songs will be released in any other format, as they were just jams… there AREN’T any new songs! Regarding the bass, i think Youth is a fantastic dub-vibe player… on dub records i like the bass a bit sloppy… late, no showing off, deep and minimal… Youth has this covered, but doesn’t have the skill and dexterity to play like Chris Barker who played on the original album and can do all kinds of clever jazzy stuff and is probably a better bass player, but would never play something like…. the bassline to ‘natural mystic’ by bob marley, for example (one of my favourites - total vibe, over-ruling skilled pyrotechnics…)
The artwork is pretty crappy too…. unfortunately this was about budget… no-one seems to buy records anymore, so twisted is constantly in debt from trying to provide new experiences like shpongle as a band with 11 musicians at the roundhouse… or extravagancies like having storm thorgerson make some artwork that will stand the tests of time and not date too much…. so either trends will change and people will buy records again, or twisted will finally hold up our hands and say “that’s it - can’t afford it anymore, it’s over”, or we will do DJ-only shows, releasing only compilations of DJ fodder music…. personally i can’t really see either of those 3 things happening, so we soldier on as best we can trying to provide as much of our souls as we can give…. you gotta take the rough with the smooth!!!

well, like I said before, I Love the album completely from start to end.

to me it was quite obvious that you guys just had some fun with those slightly heavy parts which I like, and to me they sounded more like space rock than heavy metal and they fit just fine.

also in my opinion the basslines are very good and energetic and they sit very well with everything else

it is also important for me to say that I still buy music on a regular basis, all kinds of genres and styles ( always the CD’s ) I never download or buy digitally and it’s like this for years now.

cheers !
