I realized yesterday that the cover of Tales of the Inexpressible has a man holding a ribbon that is attached to a shpongle mask… I am thinking that the picture we see is only the center or bottom of the cover, and the ribbon will attach to a large shpongle face in the corner of the picture… at least that’s what I hope
I saved a copy of it and enlarged it but haven’t found a mask as yet, it would be nice if the end of the ribbon it has a mask on it. However when you save it, it states TWSCD36final.jpg so I guess it’s the finished version.
Shpongle inhabit an electronic world of their own, beyond conventional time and space, and yet their music had a definite Indian flavour - so we suggested a set of images taken in India for the forthcoming DVD, album and box set, in order to maintain a degree of continuity, but we can only show you the DVD which is imminent, since the album itself is ‘delayed’ and consequently so is the box set. Our design features the well known ‘staircase to nowhere’ - ascending to the heavens or receding from the clouds? - either way it felt suitably ineffable and beyond the rational… and thus right up Shpongle street. This staircase is in fact a real staircase, part of an observatory called Jantar Muntar, situated in Jaipur in India’s Rajastan. Solid structure but mystical purpose
Um…. its pretty cool, but I agree with the others - no mask? Either way it looks cool. Plus my 24th birthday is in November, so… this will be the coolest gift ever.
The DVD cover is better, but they are both trippy as fuck. I noticed they get much better if you investigate it. I didnt notice the subtle water splashes until someone on the forum pointed it out. I love the whole ribbon on the girl thing, reminds me of No Turn Unstoned everytime…
I hope you like the artwork once you have it in your hand…. there is no ‘Shpongle mask’ on the cover….. many times we tried to convince Storm to put one in… the same ideas here actually : possibly over the yogi’s face, or as a shadow, or in the water…. but he was adamant! He’s not a big fan of the mask…. and we have to let him do his thing as an artist…..However, it will appear throughout the booklet of course, along with some production notes i wrote about how we made each track… i think it should be nice and collectable!
I’m glad everyone is enjoying the samples…...now - how the fuck are we going to play this live????!!!
Btw, the box set is shelved for the moment…. i need to set up some old computers and go thru the drives for some extras, so it’s not just the 4 CDs… and right now it’s “Younger Brother” time…. well actually right now it’s “Roundhouse” time…. then it will be back to YB…..
