ok - so - i guess i will start off this thread

in the last couple of weeks i have bought 2 albums. . .

lately ive been really getting into my chilled acoustic music and when i was looking through the new NINJA TUNE releases and sampling a few tracks i came across an artist called ‘FINK’

its unlike the ninja tune label to release and acoustic artist so i was intregued to hear and i have been pleasantly suprised. “pretty little thing’ was the track i heard (its also the first track on the album) and i love it. The beats are definately hip hop orientated, but the drums are live and they are not full on at all. The general tune is funky and soulfull with an amazing organ sounds coming in and out of the track and a couple of really nice pads used to perfection. The other stand out tracks for me are ‘Buscuits for breakfast’ (the title for the album) and ‘sorry im late’.  Buscuits for breakfast Is a bit darker and more ambient than pretty little thing, and the chours is dreamy! Sorry im late is really dark “i need a drink, who doesnt need a drink these days” are the opening vocals - and they set the tone for the song. its just vocals and guitar and its amazing -

overall id say it is a good all round album with some stand out tracks. its a mixture of acoustic styles but is really well produced and the songs are at some points genius.

the other cd i got is “the only thing i ever wanted” by a band called Psapp! Its hard to describe really. the cd came as a double pack, cd 2 is an instrumental whilst cd1 features the bands female vocalist. The music is often fairytale-esq with each song being exceptionally stuctured. I coulsnt really put the music into a specific catagory of genre, its definatlly chilled out, but its quite up tempo and happy and i love the plinky plonky piano riffs.

check em out and start posting some reccomendations

Peace

Cool, that second album sounds nice however I haven’t heard of them before - may track it down.

I’ve followed the Ninja label on and off now for over ten years and have an album by Fink from about 5 years ago called fresh produce, check it out it’s well nice.  Quite electro/hip hop beats which I love as well as my trance/chill stuff.

Nija as a label have a very diverse sound now and any compilations which you come across are well worth having, the mixes done by either cold cut or the label artists on the Solid Steel compilations are nothing short of brilliant.  If you get to see them live just go!!!

A Cold Cut and Hallucinogen combination would be different and very interesting.  Cold Cut as far as I’m concerned are in the genius category of music production along with Posford.  If you look at what they have done over the years they are massive now but managed to stay non comercial which is a job in itself.

thanks for posting the new thread, it’s important to discuss stuff like this…

ye - i was a bit shocked to hear this artist after being sure i had heard a ‘fink’ before, though had convincedmyself it wasnt the same guy and the general sound to the music was so different. but like you said, ninja tune always pulls out suprises when you least expect it. and i fully agree with what you say about cold cut - its a different kind of production skill altogether and while i dont actualy listen to that much hip hop, the stuff that i do like is generally ninja tune related -
