I have checked out the new Shpongle album cover. I would say it’s not bad, I like the levitation idea and love the splash marks in the river behind the monk. But I believe a sacrilege has taken place… no Shpongle mask! I knew the cover would be different because of the new Twisted direction, but c’mon, Shpongle is not Shpongle without that trypted-out Shpongle logo. I think it would fit very nicely as a shadow under the monk. There is not much time, so let’s act fast, and maybe if we’re lucky we could push for the inclusion of the logo.
Everyone in favor of the addition of the Shpongle logo, keep tally (+1, +2, +3 etc.) and if you want make a suggestion of where to put it.

Its a good idea actually to have the shpongle mask hidden in the shadow haha :D but its up to the artist, and if raj and simon beleive its worthy of shpongle than so be it!

I hope you like the artwork once you have it in your hand…. there is no ‘Shpongle mask’ on the cover….. many times we tried to convince Storm to put one in… the same ideas here actually : possibly over the yogi’s face, or as a shadow, or in the water…. but he was adamant! He’s not a big fan of the mask…. However, it will appear throughout the booklet of course, along with some production notes i wrote about how we made each track… i think it should be nice and collectable!

I was studying abroad last year in London(From VT, USA) and it was beyond epic to see you all play live. I just wish I didn’t graduate so I would have to again this year and see you guys 2 days in a row! I hope one day you will play a live show in the US. I caught you at Bisco this summer and it was amazing as well(even though the 2am cutoff was sad) but to see the whole band again would be magical.
Back when the cover was first posted Storm had some of the pictures on his website in a higher res then what twisted has up now. If I remember right, some of the things they did are pretty awesome.

About the mask: it would’ve looked weird to have it in there somewhere just floating around randomly. As part of the shadow/water/face of the indian guy, I guess it would’ve been cool, but having it in the booklet is enough for me. Placed my vote on option 2 .
I love the new cover. Why should they conform to some idea of what their fans think shpongle should be?
Simon and Raja created a mold,then broke it. I am glad they do not stick to the same sounds and in this case album art. Same goes with Younger Brother.It is refreshing see growth and progression with the sounds of Shpongle and Younger Brother.
Well I think the cover looks really GREAT as it is…. however I really miss the Shpongle Mask on it! I mean, they could have used it as a background element as in “Tales of the inexpressible” (which btw has an amazing cover!!), something discrete…. like in the DVD cover , it has the mask engraved below the stairs…. why not on the CD???

Ha! Yes, it’s our record so we should have the last word…Buuuut….You obviously haven’t met Storm! He may be paralyzed down one side of his body, after a stroke, be taking drugs for his cancer treatment, and has a hernia…. perhaps that goes some way to explain his cantankerous behaviour… but underneath it all, he is an artist… one that i respect and trust… if he gives his opinion, about 85% of the time i will listen to it!
if we just wanted a mask again, anyone of us here could have knocked something up in photoshop… in fact, let’s start a new thread : “What the Shpongle album cover SHOULD have looked like…” - let’s see what you got!

He didn’t like it? That was the only reason he gave? Maybe he felt it was HIS commission, so any other art he did not create himself was unwelcome. But really, it’s not like you were asking him to slap a nike swoosh on the yogi’s forehead. How about making a part, or even the whole piece one of those optical illusions where only if you stare long enough at it, the mask emerges?
