Hello Simon,

just wanted to say I’m hoping the sales of the new album will get Twisted back on track. I just orderd my copy - nope 2 copies as I would have probably paid twice the price if I ordered via amazon smile

Sadly, leaking is annoying but inevitable if you send out press samples. I’ve done press promotion for a german techno label back in the 90s and the problem was there before p2p and ftpz. Get a proper review? Doubt it. Have spread illegal copies? For sure! It has been that way and will be that way forever. On the other hand, the Goa scene started by djs swapping DATs.

But there’s one thing that has changed in the last years. In the mid 90s every Dj was using vinyl, Cds were frowned upon. Nowadays most Djs use CD or even Traktor. And by CD I mean self burned, Traktor (cracked, of course) mp3 (downloaded 4 free, not bought in a online shop), but the Dj (of course) wants to be paid big money. You can hear the mp3 compression fizz in nearly every song played.  Screw ‘em.

Djs, if you’re doing a paid gig, be fair and only play songs you paid for. Think: if your favourite artist can’t afford the electricity and the instrumenst to produce your next dancfloor filler anymore, what are you gonna play on the next party? Top40 stuff?

Hello there, twisted people and Simon!
I’m from Russia so I hope my language is understandable ).

First of all: Okyup, you REALLY need to SHUT THE FUCK UP! Whats with youtube links? Do you realise how stupid you are when talking about complexity of such music? Shpongle is the most complex sound from everything I’ve listened so far. I’ve listened to Carbon Based Lifeforms, Entheogenic and much more. They are REALLY great! But when I’m starting to compare them to Shpongle….well, they become a huge stinky pile of shit! “They have multiple layers of sound…” Did you heard how much sounds in each Shpongle track? I think not. I’m listening Shpongle over 7 years and I’m still finding something new that I never heard before (It’s like magic, Si, thank you!). So don’t you dare to compare Shpongle to those guys! Because Si don’t want to be like others, making copies of other projects. He wants to make something new, something really unusual, he doesn’t afraid to experimentate. Just like scientist ). He even don’t want to make similar albums! That’s why they are all different. He always seeking for something new. There are progress in our world because of men like Si! Thank you, thank you Si! I love you and your work! You’ve always amazed me!

and i’m already ignored Okyup wink (very usefull function by the way)

Next: Twisted is the best label in the universe and if it disappears world will turn to grey for me (. I cann’t live without Shpongle! It’s unbelievable project!
And now I’m sitting here and get angry that I live in such shithole (little town….it even can be called “village”). And I cann’t buy any twisted CD. Now I know Twisted situation and soon I’ll make a credit card and try to get CDs via post.
Also I hoping to find all Shpongle CDs at live in Moscow (I’ll be there for sure….and in Forum Hall before too…..and every time you come to Russia (by the way Chronos Open Air was unbelievable! Thanks again!)) or maybe final, I’ve heard that on live in London they’ll be. I’m definitely buy 3 or 5 of it. And DVD too! One of my dreams is to buy Shpongle vinyls and put it on the wall in my room!
Yes, I have downloaded copy of last album, but as I’ve said there is no way to get CDs in my town ((((((. About album: it’s awesome! Just like everything you do, Si. To be honest I think the first one is greatest. But they are all outstanding! Shpongle - music that inspires me. It’s so unique. I’m listening it over 7 years and it’s doesn’t get boring at all!
I’ve read about making shows from Simon’s post. It’s really sad and not fair. I thought it’s possible to get some money from shows (. If I get VIP ticket, will you get money from it? Or everything will take Forum Hall (or who ever)? Shit I cann’t throw away a thought that I cann’t do anything and it’s killing me.

And final: It’s about ideas to get money. I have only one for now but it’s hard to me to tell about it because I starting to get feeling that I’m imposing. But still I’ll try. How much do you spend on publishing, Si? It’s just….well…I’m writing music myself and, of course, I’m dreaming about Twisted Rec. as a publisher. So I can post some links to listen and you, Si, and all forum users can listen to it and decide if it’s worth to be published on Twisted. Of course it can be peace of shit, I know…and if it is, I’ll continue to work on my sound and someday, I hope, will join you. But if it’s worth I will give it to you for free (I mean I don’t need to be paid for it at all), you’ll publish it, every one here will buy at least one CD (including me smile) and every penny that you’ll get from those you’ll keep for label. I can even write more )...of course if it worth Twisted and not much money will spend on publishing. And there is another reason to me to offer this. I’M DYING FOR YOUR PERSONAL OPINION, SI! And I donn’t have another ideas. So this is it ) i’ll watch this topic.

hhmmm….that was really hard.

Thanks again and again, Si, Raj, Michele Adamson and everyone who somehow connected to Twisted! I hope that this period will pass and we will hear Shpongle5, Hallucinogen3, Younger Brother3 and many many more amazing music! Have a great day and greeting from Russia!

Well the thread is about impressions/reviews and it is bugging me now as I’ve still not listened to the album. I am going to wait until the quality release is out. I’m hearing mostly great reviews, some who don’t like it.

Each to their own I suppose. I’m just waiting impatiently now.

@ peekaboo. Now, I see your sharpness and wit smile some of your posts had me cracking. Truce?

Good morning, citizens of Shpongleland smile.

Just a little experience of mine:
This summer I was in Sarti, Greece. One day we rented scooters, and did an all-day motorcycling. Once I read a sign on the road, called Goa Beach. I said lets go watch it, maybe its my world there. And I was right smile.
When we arrived, familiar music came out from those huge speakers. Which could be heard all over the shore.
It was Nothing Lasts…But Nothing Is Lost smile. The DJ played the whole cd. From that moment on I was in trance to the end. I hardly believed it. A beautiful shore, clean blue sea, wonderful mountains and Shpongle music. I was reborned. I can’t describe that feeling. I was completely Geschtonkenflapped LOL.
That was an incredible, 200% day, one of my best in my life so far, I’m sure a part of me have stayed there, and still dancing in the sea.
I hope next year I can do it again, with Ineffable Mysteries maybe cool smile

I’ll be happy with a CD that sells enough to pay for the electricity and equipment it took to make it…. I’ll throw in my time for free smile

And in a game of cosmic chicken…. wink

For your next album, I will pay your electricity, provide

Ironically it’s the small artists [like me] who benefit most from file sharing.

If it weren’t for file sharing I wouldn’t be sitting in a hotel in California preparing to play the Earthdance Festival before jaunting up to Canada for a week of gigs and then heading down the east coast and southern states of the USA until the end of October.

I’m playing in Moscow in November and Australia in January.

My marketing budget is zero quid and yet I’m known to probably 50,000 people worldwide - maybe more.

Ten years ago, pre-Napster, I would probably have been known to a handful of people in Britain and I still wouldn’t be making a living from selling records.

I think it’s bizarre that a roomful of millionaires should be whining on how unfair it all is. Fuck them.

P2p music sharing is the most incredible free viral marketing tool and probably the best thing to happen to music since the invention of the multitrack tape machine.

To throw the pidgeon amongst the cats…..

That was a quote from Ott on another forum. Interesting to see how the different results, perhaps colours one’s perspectives.

That’s interesting.. I think generally though, Ott is/has been less well known than Shpongle, so yes he would definitely benefit from as much exposure as possible. I think though, that filesharing as a means of promotion, while very good in the past perhaps, is less beneficial now that the “rest of the internet” has caught up with legit sites such as last.fm, spotify etc and all the social networking sites - myspace etc as a means of discovering new music.

In the old days it was great but now, frankly, you don’t need to rely on filesharing networks / torrent sites to get access to music and discover similar artists and genres.

I dunno though.. it’s a tricky one.. each artist / band seems to have a different stance and opinion on the pros and the cons.. ultimately it all boils down to sales, and it’s hard to know if we’d be better or worse off without filesharing but it exists and won’t be going away anytime soon regardless.

Some stuff from another torrent site:

Pretty good after first listen. Good enough I’ll pay for a copy when it’s released, or maybe buy the DVD. Shpongle deserves the money, for sure. Ineffable Mysteries was probably my favorite track after the first listen, but No Turn Unstoned had some of Raj’s awesome flute. Good stuff. Now… looking forward to the next great thing, Younger Brother 3rd album! OH YEAH

———

‘Will definitely buy this one, but thanks for the early release!

———

Loved every second of it.
Thanks to both of you, as well as Shpongle for this awesome piece of work.
Definitely gonna buy this and blast the hell out of it.

———

There’s also a call for ordering Twisted stuff on the isratrance forum in the Promotional Media section, some replies:

Orghdered!:D

Just thought I would register and post..

Chalk up another purchase, plus after chatting to my house-mate he went and bought a bunch more CDs and a T-shirt :D

I’ve also seen Simon play 3 times live here in Australia.

Hoping there’ll be a fourth sometime soon - live show with Raj perhaps? :D

Actually not particularly…lol….. pre-orders have been steady since it became available… we are up to around 600 now…

Funnily enough, since the torrent got released, we have now had several people asking for refunds!  Seems a bit lame to me, but perhaps they downloaded the album and absolutely hated it….

This compares with one of the torrent trackers, which was claiming 12,000 downloads a few days ago (spread over 4 different torrents).

btw, as for the donate thingy… if you have paypal and feel like it, you can donate to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
