Did somebody dose me? Oh, no, I just listened to Ineffable Mysteries From Shpongleland. Curious, I took nothing, yet, I am high.

Sample at end of Invisible Man In A Flourescent Suit is from recent BBC Documentary “Can I Get High Legally” when the presenter tries salvia for the ‘first’ time, about 4 minutes into this video. Though I’d share that if it already hasn’t been mentioned smile

I got my copy a couple days ago, but I wanted to listen to it in it’s entirety for my first listen so I finally got to do that earlier today. I read the liner notes before listening and had the feeling that the Indian influence might be a bit too strong and dominate the music. But when I listened I was proven wrong and had a great time dancing around my house while eating my lunch. (I hope the neighbors didn’t see)
Listening to a Shpongle album really is like an epic adventure with new experiences and events popping up constantly. Each track is able to paint a vivid picture in my mind and I would like to thank Simon, Raja, and all others who contributed for providing me with this experience.

Needless to say, Ineffable Mysteries definitely ranks up there with the rest of the Shpongle and Twisted catalog and will be receiving much play time in my stereo. I haven’t quite picked out a favorite track or tracks yet, but I’m sure that will come with more listens of course. Or maybe I will just love them all equally!  tongue laugh

Oh, and thank you Simon for including the little commentaries on each track in the liner notes of the album. Most artists never or rarely do that type of thing and it’s a real treat for me (and I’m sure many other fans) to have that insight into the origin and meaning of the samples and instrumentation for each track.

Congrats on another excellent album to all who were involved in it’s creation.

I keep going back and forth between liking and hating the album. Right now I really like it.

I think the trick is to be totally relaxed while listening to it (post wank is a nice time) and listening from the first song. The first 4 tracks flow into eachother nicely—I still dont like tracks 5 and 6

No Turn Unstoned is still the gem, i say. There are no annoying or harsh samples (Electroplasm sure has some) and the vocals, with the exception of the first contrived line, are the best of any shpongle song

Oh, it’s also mandatory headphone listening if you ask me. Simon does such crazy shit with stereo effects that it really gets you in the mood

Yep, I still don’t like tracks 5 and 6 either. I think they ruined I Am You, the first versions were a much better. Now the sounds are different, the intro is too long, the voice that starts at 2:55 is weird now with that new effect, and the vocals, I don’t know, there’s something I don’t like.

And I still don’t ‘understand’ the 6th track.

I love the first 4 tracks too. Specially Electroplasm, I think that one is my favorite and in my top 10 shpongle tracks.

What I don’t like about the 6th track is the synth trumpets, they used that sound on track 4, 5 too.

It’s the sound that starts at :

2:09 on Ineffable Mysteries

4:00 on Invisible Man

7:46 on I Am you

You know what I mean?

It’s just my opinion, but don’t take me wrong I love the new album and I have been listening to it like 100 times a day.

Christ, i thought i was the only one who noticed the awful synth brass. It sounds like something that belongs on the starwars soundtrack. Luckily, it doesnt hurt ineffable mysteries too much, but i think it’s the reason i hate Invisible man. Very anti climactic.

Which is a shame, because everything after 5:20 on invisible man is awesome. I feel like a lot of these tracks are just too long

The harsh sample at 3:30 on track 1 is something that happens too often on the album

Harsh sample? Well, it’s a bit harsh, it kind of hurts my ear while listening to it, but where else does it happen?

That sample is not harsh. Not sure what you’re listening thru. Dynaudios over here and it sounds fine.

To me sounds like a vocal run thru some Kyma trickery….suppose it could have been eq’d slightly different but definitely doesnt sound harsh to my ears.
