That part really threw me off on the first listen…
But now I really like the dynamics of it and the track!

And yes it does matter what you listen on and how loud it is…

Simon, thanx a lot for everything you’ve been doing.
“Nothing Is Something Worth Doing” - is just the anthem of my recent days.
Thanks a lot, buddy. I hope, you and your label both are gonna be as fine as possible. I have downloaded the album as well. But later on just deleted and decided to wait for the CD. It wasn’t in vain smile My mind was completely blown away smile And I guess my shpongle mask tattoo was kinda pleasantly scratching smile))
Thanx again)))

Simon,

as a long time shpongle fan (since 13 I guess) i’ll simply write down what i’m saying to everyone here in Israel who asks me ‘who the f*** is shpongle?’

as a shpongle fan i’m trying to spread the word over, wearing the t’s, telling friends about the music, spreading it on forums etc…

so my theory is that shpongle is the new pink floyd, the new artist that is ahead of his time…. the music is just genius, brilliant…. ahead of the music made today, like floyd was weird, genius, crazy back in the 70’s and simply just classic now and still loved by millions and still gain new fans, so is shpongle….

abit weird for the normal listener, but just awesome , mind blowing, smart, brilliant, new , fresh, ahead of his time for the ‘mature listeners’ like me and the others here smile

I can tell you also Simon and Raj,

that in my hard times in my army service (actually happens while i write this down) , I just find those good moments that I can sit down with my ipod, turn on ‘nothing lasts’ and smile…... take a small break of the weekly routine (army routine…... crap ;p…..) and just understand that life is just great…

.... on the way home after 21 days in the field shooting guns and firing bombs…..just listening to shpongle music on the bus while everyone is asleep and just smiling like a retard… thats life man!

keep on making good music and i hope this get sorted someday….. let me add another thing that i was the happiest man coming back home and having the new shpongle cd + dvd on desk…..pleasureable moment,

cheeeeeers and gn smile

Well, I do listen to it really loud :p

The album was mastered by someone with 30 years experience so I guess him and Simon would have lowered the vol if they thought there was an issue…

I finally got to listen to the whole thing and I feel like it’s a wonderful Shpongle album.

For some reason my favorite track ATM is Walking Backwards… it makes me feel like I’m on some psychedelic comet with weird small multicolored alien creatures surrounding me while traveling through space. It’s so… different.

The album as a whole feels cohesive and flows from start to finish well.

I will still need a few listens to absorb it all.

Which is a shame, because everything after 5:20 on invisible man is awesome. I feel like a lot of these tracks are just too long

The harsh sample at 3:30 on track 1 is something that happens too often on the album

It’s supposed to be harsh! Although not as harsh as the distorted cello (most people would think it’s a guitar) at 2.30… Without the darkness the light would have nothing to shine through… yin and yang… night and day…blah blah blah…. without capitalist scum, fluffy hippies would have nothing to moan about (they’d still end up on these forums whining about something tho’!).
I like some harshness in music… nine inch nails, dead kennedys… a bit of Lo-Fi is great too, i can’t leave ELO on repeat play wink

About tracks being too long:  Actually i think most ALBUMS are too long… i think 40 mins is a good length for an album, but if we released a shpongle album that long people would have a shit-fit…. and that is indeed why the ‘Metal Sharon’ album has just sat on the shelves… it’s not long enough for people not to complain, and neither Merv or I seem to ever get the time together to finish it off… but we keep hoping “one day”

Shpongling, i think you and i share the same short attention span… however i like everything BEFORE 5:20 on invisible man.

I haven’t read this entire thread because it’s gotten very long but I have tried to read most of it.  Well first of all, I think it’s a great album.  Favorite tracks are Ineffable Mysteries, Invisible Man in a Fluorescent Suit, and Walking Backwards through the Cosmic Mirror.  It took me a couple more listens than say Nothing Lasts to really get into it but I’m loving every track now.

People have mentioned how this album sounds different than the first three albums or that it sounds like some combination of them.  There is so much experimentation, exploration of new sounds, etc. that I feel like this opens a new chapter for Shpongle.  It doesn’t really sound like a ‘final album’ to me.

Anybody else feel this way?

i agree with you simon. good music has to be worked through. an investment of time, and an ability to sift through the dark to find the beauty within. also, who says dark is dark, and harsh is harsh anyway?

without the ups and downs of the first two tracks, would “nothing is something worth doing” sound so peaceful?

I have to agree… at the very least I sincerely hope that this is not the final chapter for Shpongle, as things seem to be evolving so well. Still very much look forward to new YB/Ott in the next year or so, even if this is it.

Hey Si, have you and Raja had talks about the future for Shpongle?

Great album. It grows with each listen, just the way it should be with good music. People have said how this album have been a disappointment, but I’m sure those people just haven’t listened thoroughly. Sure, it’s different, but what Shpongle album or song isn’t? That’s one of the many charms with these guys, they make so extremely wide and layered music.
When Nothing Lasts… But Nothing is Lost was released we were told that it would be their last studio album. With this release we haven’t been told anything. This does not sound like an end, it sounds like all other Shpongle-albums. Like a spin-off, like there’s so much more to hear!

What’s your top three of Ineffable Mysteries from Shpongleland?
