so awesome!
I was so afraid i was going to be dissapionted in Ineffable….but wow, just wow.
and now we have a new younger brother to look forward to in the near future! Keep it up Si, you da man, lol.
next time you tour the states make sure to come back to Oregon.
Saw you in Portland last summer, rocked my world, big time.
what a brilliant piece of music this album is. i have listened through it maybe 45 times now. (yes i downloaded early, could not wait for my CD! which I have gotten now). headphones make it even better. a *good* pair of headphones, or IEMs makes it outstanding. good headphones plus perceptual enhancement makes it staggering, if not world shaking. never before have i have been this obsessed with an album. the levels of detail, the changes, the nuance, the slaps in the face, the variety, the threads of continuity, all of it, the gentle come down at the end (Oh I don’t know Si…)
maybe one day i will be able to apply words to express my feelings of joy about this album.
Which is a shame, because everything after 5:20 on invisible man is awesome. I feel like a lot of these tracks are just too long
The harsh sample at 3:30 on track 1 is something that happens too often on the album
It’s supposed to be harsh! Although not as harsh as the distorted cello (most people would think it’s a guitar) at 2.30… Without the darkness the light would have nothing to shine through… yin and yang… night and day…blah blah blah…. without capitalist scum, fluffy hippies would have nothing to moan about (they’d still end up on these forums whining about something tho’!).
I like some harshness in music… nine inch nails, dead kennedys… a bit of Lo-Fi is great too, i can’t leave ELO on repeat play
About tracks being too long: Actually i think most ALBUMS are too long… i think 40 mins is a good length for an album, but if we released a shpongle album that long people would have a shit-fit…. and that is indeed why the ‘Metal Sharon’ album has just sat on the shelves… it’s not long enough for people not to complain, and neither Merv or I seem to ever get the time together to finish it off… but we keep hoping “one day”
Shpongling, i think you and i share the same short attention span… however i like everything BEFORE 5:20 on invisible man.
Gonna have to agree that everything AFTER 5:20 is better. The beginning was too melodramatic and at times felt like electro folk music. If there is such a thing.
I especially did not like the humming that comes in the intro that slowly morphs to a better sounding synth. Also noticed that while there are some harsh sounds your yin and yang analogy did not address that there isnt enough low booming bass to bring balance to the force.
With album lengths I always prefer 60-70 mins so something you can put on and relax into as a journey. I have albums of 40mins and the’re over too quick.
The Shpongle ablums and also the Eclipse project are great examples of this where the albums evolve over time. As for the length of the tracks I have no problem with them, maybe Invisible man could have had an extra 2 mins but no great complaint.
Overall I find the album very different to the previous 3, it’s more raw and the style has developed with the integration of the instraments which works very well. I think it is the most downtempo so far and I still don’t have a favourite ablum between the 4 as each sums up a different period of musical evolution.
The one thing for sure is as with the previous albums it has lifted the ‘bar’ again for other artists to aspire to.

That’s one thing I’ve always loved about shpongle, it’s that “ying and yang” thing. You need some darkness to appreciate the brighter things. And shpongle’s always been full of these contrasts. Behind closed eyelids is to me a very good example of it, because sometimes it’s really harsh, crazy and lets say it, a bit hard to listen to, but that’s what makes some other parts of the song so beautiful. Other good example, transition from linguistic mystics to mentalism, brilliant…
Just release that 40min long metal sharon material for god’s sake!! we need fresh twisted psytrance! Can we have any hints about how it’s gonna sound like?

Nah, wait until YB 3 has been released, Merv’s got the new dendron and his 20th anniversary eat static album out then get together again and record the rest! Tbh, it’s the prospect of live shows as opposed to the actual metal sharon album that excites me most about a merv/si p collaboration anyway :D
Out of interest: have you ever performed live with Merv before Si?
Eletroplasm is one of my favorite tracks on the new album. It’s so energetic!
I don’t really like the beginning of Shponglese Spoken Here but when the beat comes in it’s all good and groovy, the dub part is nice too.
Nothing Is Something Worth Doing is a very nice track to relax to, I really like the hangdrum sound! And the drums.
Ineffable Mysteries is nice.. I like the singing at the beginning and at the very end of the track. Gives me goosebumps. And the live-drum feel is excellent. But I think I may have to listen some more before I really really like it.
I Am You has very nice parts, and I like the singing. But overall I think it sounds a bit messy in the middle-to-end region, like it has been remixed too much or something. Still an ok track though
Invisible Man is just a wonderful track.. I love Cello… The little subtle sounds… Great, relaxing track.
No Turn Unstoned is actually also one of my favorites at the moment. I really like the singing and the flute in there.
Walking Backwards is a diverse, good track. Nice beats, good relaxing parts… Nice psychedelica. The stereo part at 5:16 on headphones makes me feel a bit weird though, hehe.
That’s my short review/impression. Finally. After listening to the CD 7 times
why wouldn’t anyone want to listen to a poor quality ripped version of this album?
Bwahahaa! Mp3 quality vs CD quality?
Does that even need to be discussed?
The bear still patiently waits…
320 kbps mp3 is pretty darn close to cd quality.
I prefer buy the cd just for the purpose of supporting the label which is great btw.
I also thought it was great that Simon included descriptions of the creation of each song. Only thing that companies can do these days is start including extras with a cd purchase and of course try and get their music into movies and tv for some added royalties. Some might consider that selling out but I seriously think more of the world needs to hear Shpongle.
Btw what’s with the last word “studio” being in a white font instead of black in the description of Electroplasm in the cd booklet?
Glad you like the liner notes… Storm owes me lunch for messing up the colour on the word “studio”! He also owes me dinner for leaving the “red-eye” in, on the picture of raj and me….. Doh!
The notes are great aren’t they, I really like that sort of info.
I have now atoned for my downloading of all the twisted stuff! After having a bit of trouble trying to get my card to go through, just purchased all the shpongle albums and the dvd. Both Ott albums, and both In dub albums. Will pick up the YB albums soon as well Cant wait for them to get here! Twisted can never die!

HARSH???? Really the most meditative sounds in human history are sharp and abrasive to the thought process…. Have you ever listened to a Ney? (snake charmers clarinet) or the Gyuto monks chanting and banging cymbals? Sharp (harsh) sound is meant to be invasive. It is meant to drive right into the center of the mind and bounce around… I’m not trying to be a jerk…but if you dont get it….Try maybe .....Um Deep House….
Not that there is anything wrong with deep house…. Just seems to have less invasive sounds (unless you include vocals) That harsh sample at 3:30 on track one Just SCREAMS Shpongle…When I first listened to this album it was on Mt Palomar in a beautiful fern filled canyon…(sober mind you) That sample raised the hair on my neck. I thought the Banjhakri was coming for me (I know its a Hallucinogen reference thanks) my point is…..well I guess you get the point…I thought it was perfect and perfectly placed for my experience. My girlfriend purchased the album, we got it in the mail…and then we waited an agonizing day until we got into the forest to listen. Maybe this kind of intent when listening would help you…I dunno.
