I feel really sad about this, yes… filesharing helps the artist to be known,

but UPLOADING the album BEFORE it’s released…. is really sad!! I hope that guy gets sued and punished as it should be. I really do understand Simon, track that fucker down.

You should secure your networks, connections and only show your work to trustable people before releasing the new album. Bad idea to send it to the fucker that ended up uploading the album -.-!!!!!

Simon, please count on us, me and my brother already pre ordered the album, and will buy more stuff, I am telling my friends and cousins to get the album too. We are the ones that must help.

I wonder how many people has pre ordered the album so far? and how many cds will be sold in the gig. I hope you can make a decent amount of money, I am sure you will!

Good luck, Si and Raj, you two are my only idols in this world, and always will be.

I have a crazy but I think could be a cool idea. Just think of it as say helping a mate out.

Say if we all say bought a t shirt or a hoodie, mugs or some twisted accesories when buying the cd. I just thought of it as I need a new nothing lasts t shirt as the cats have decided it looks better with a few small holes.

Just think if we all were to do that I can’t imagine how many people come on the forum but if out of the 2500 or so members say a 500 read this and say spent on average

Dear Simon,

I’m not sure if you will read this but I’ll write it anyway. I feel really bad for you that the album is already leaked on the internet. We live in a really bad generation for musicians due to filesharing. I just want to say that YOU were the reason why I started to make music, that YOU are the artist that most inspires me. (More than Pink Floyd or any other great musicians.)
I’ve listened to the samples of the new album, they sound AMAZING. This will definitely be the favourite shpongle album for me. I had tears in my eyes while listening to some samples (e.g. I am you!) & I almost had a musical orgasm when I heard the Hang drum in the second track. (I wish I had my own Hang, but I’m also very satisfied with my Hapi drum wink)

I hope that the record sales for this album will be good, you EARN this.
I will definitely pre-order the album & the dvd this week. (And maybe some more stuff)

Please, never stop making music.

Greets from Belgium,

Daan [wearing my cool Shpongle t-shirt at the moment]

Did I miss the party? ha!

Hallucinogen - 19 October 2009 06:25 PM

Thanks digital alex, but Twisted DO offer a way to donate… and you know what? you’ll even get a CD sent thu the post, with artwork by storm thorgerson, and text that we spent time writing, and generally pouring our heart and souls into….!!!

No shit? Can’t wait to get mine wink

Look, my point is not that Twisted are asking too much for a cd. Not at all. If anything, you’d be justified asking more, given the quality of most modern music (and artwork).
My point is that the technology is here to stay, so might as well get out in front. Maybe there are people out there who only like two or three tracks. The donate button allows them to pay for only those, like Beatport does. It’s just a way to cut your losses.

More and more artists are giving up the album format because mp3 players make it almost irrelevant. Ultimately, I think these new fans will buy the complete album, because Shpongle is the rare exception in that the albums provide more of a profound experience listened to in full- more so than just about any other album I’ve ever heard.

There is no excuse for the asshole who uploaded the album before the release date. My hope that the album would be streamed was due partly to a fear that that would happen. At least if it were streamed live, maybe for site members only, it would have eased the pain of having it done without your permission. At least you can be sure the album is bringing joy to many, despite it being early.

For what it’s worth, my heart goes out to you. I’d like to think of myself as one of your best fans. Don’t be discouraged. Your music has always been both timeless and eons ahead of its time. Given what the majority of people listen to, it is truly a testament to your skill as an artist that you’ve been as successful as you have while staying off the mainstream radar. I predict you will continue to prevail and gain more fans who, like me, paradoxically both want to tell everyone they know about the music and keep it a secret, because for so many people being fans of Shpongle is part of what makes them unique.

I’ve got 100% faith in you. I’m sure your grandfather would say the same.

I think you should consider that the music might be the problem, not the mp3 world. Other labels in this scene don’t all have this problem.

Personally I didn’t have to download the new album at all, I just listened to the samples on the site and found it was even worse than the last albums. Other than the first Hallucinogen album, a couple earlier tracks by Shpongle and Evil & Harm (2000 version) by Younger Brother, there is nothing that great on Twisted. I’ve downloaded all the other Twisted albums in high quality (no mp3 with distortion in the sound wink) and one after another confirmed my suspicions they are all pretty lousy music.

The fact that Simon himself says he needs to listen to the album 200 times before he can understand it indicates that maybe there isn’t much thought and design put into it in the first place. Maybe if I heard these albums 200 times I would understand them too, but unfortunately for Twisted, there are hundreds of other, damn good albums being released every year that I can understand and appreciate after only a couple listens. If listening to Shpongle is like reading Finnegans Wake then I can’t say I’m interested, but I’m sure Joyce understood everything in his own book as he wrote it, so the analogy is poor.

Twisted Records is one of the most commercial psy labels, yet they are the only psy label to stoop to crying publicly about not selling enough CDs. Better to spend your money supporting smaller labels and emerging artists that really have money problems. Twisted already sells thousands of each CD, they will hardly notice it if you just download their music in high quality instead.

It’s a real pity it’s leaked. And downloading a highly compressed version? It’s an insult.

I had also hoped that the movement towards playing with a full band meant that Twisted records was doing increasingly better economically.. but apparently not.. : ( My bubble burst just there.

Me and my friends are doing our share of supporting you guys, buying your CD’s, tickets to shows and merchandise.

I hope the roundhouse shows will create some income… I think you’ll be able to sell a LOT of stuff there like last time, and timing the release of the album with the concert is a great thing.

Man, a world without the idea.. the thought of the Twisted crew gathered around their electronic and acoustic instruments making their music.. somewhere *out there*... is not a happy place. We simply cannot have that, folks.

How many Twisted albums did you have to listen to, one after another, to “confirm your suspicions” that they are all lousy?

Where did he say he needed to listen 200 times to understand it? He’s writing the music. How many times should he listen to it during the writing process? If you knew anything about songwriting, you’d understand that it’s not always easy to listen with punter’s ears after you’ve spent years analyzing.

Honestly, I think that Twisted records survived for a long time off Simon’s Hallucinogen fame. He really did make some good tracks as Hallucinogen. His second album was weaker than his first, but by that time people were already completely infatuated with him. He is basically a superstar of the goa/psy trance scene. Unfortunately he teamed up with Raja Ram who was great at painting labels for TIP but never really added anything to music other than random out of place flutes and useless effects, no offense. Their music is now way too random, minimal, and lacking creativity.

That was precisely my point that the artist should understand the music he’s writing. Otherwise he’s just releasing a pile of shit that he thinks we might find divine inspiration in after listening to it several hundred times**. Basically he’s releasing a Shpongle album in hopes to make money, not because he believes it’s good music. I wasn’t even going to register here until I saw this comment. It’s hilarious.

From page 2:

I think this is the best album i have done… it takes a while to sink in (i only started to actually appreciate it 2 days ago…. and i’m sure i’ve heard it several hundred more times than you)

We have Ultimae. We’re fine now.

Why are you even posting in something you don’t like? Go to Britney Spears forums and post shit there.

The issue we are discussing here is this people that uploaded the new album before the release date. Pretty sad for the artists and fans.

Well it’s obvious Twisted should be more careful who they give promo CDs to. I’ve bought a couple of their promos on Ebay months before they got officially released.

And funny comment about pop music. I always thought that was the direction Simon was moving in. I saw a ton of dubstep and Lady Gaga kids praising Shpongle last year and talking incessantly about Shpongle’s “concerts” (notice how Britney Spears does concerts too?).

There is a difference between “understanding” and “appreciating”. To avoid playing into your hijack of this thread any longer, I’ll point out that most sane people don’t bother registering with a forum for a band they hate (despite listening to every album) in order to post a misplaced, inaccurate, malicious statement…unless the dislike has nothing to do with the music, or you are in fact, insane.

He’s just a no-lifer that has nothing else to do. I think he’s the one that was posting crap a couple of weeks ago. wcita wonka or something like that but he was banned.

Perhaps he had a fight with Raj or Si, or they did something bad to him, and now he hates them, because previous posts were just the same.

Listen to the music you like : ) and leave us alone here. Thanks.
