Hey Simon,
Guess what? I’ve seen you three times this year in Colorado. Met you at the Mishawaka show in Fort Collins (where was Balloonboy then?
). Every show I was at was packed, which was great to see. I also own all the Shpongle, Younger Brother, and Ott albums on CD.
But I did not hesitate to download the leaked version of the new album, which is a full mp3 rip at 320kpbs, as good as it’s gonna get mp3-wise. I’ve also preordered it. Never once in my mind did I feel bad about it. I’ve done so much personal promotion for you and your label that you should be sending me free CDs to make it up to me.
And yes, those people I shared it with immediately bought your albums. I play your music all the time at work and have been asked frequently what the hell is this coming out of my speakers. And no, not just the 12 active members on this board will be buying your album.
So yes, your music is getting out there, and no, you’re probably not making as much money as you should, but you are packing the house when you play live. How is this happening? Word of mouth or stealing? I’m curious: Would you rather make a lot of money or have a lot of people here your work? It’s a tough call, but I’d like to here your answer.
