I like the analogy of p2p / downloading just being the modern instance of radio. Skip all the materiality, the overhead that goes to production, half the cost that the distributor takes for printing, then shipping…

this is much more direct, mature, and far from tacky.

Despite hippie rhetoric, the world isn’t a free party and anyone financially responsible knows the influence their $ has. We’ve all probably spent 20 times more money on beer and bullshit, we drop $10 every day driving around….and how much does an artist get for a CD we buy? About $1.50. The rest of that 20 goes into making that CD happen and shipping it to your particular mailbox in your particular part of the world. Donation makes much more sense to me.

Tackysayers - who cares what other people think, did you stop to think about the notion in its entirety? Its about the easiest thing to do, you don’t even need to fill out a shipping address. Then thank the virtual radio network called file sharing for letting you get the media you want bypassing the physically shipping it 2500 miles.

I signed up just to respond to this.

It seems that Shpongle and Twisted are separate entities (as well as Younger Brother, Prometheus, and Ott)

Does donating to this link donate money to Shpongle or to Twisted?

I also would be interested in donating to Younger Brother, Hallucinogen, and Prometheus (and Ott already has his donation page set up)

Yes I realize Hallucinogen is Simon’s solo project and YB also is Simon (and Benji)

I’ve so far only supported by seeing Shpongle 4 times, Hallucinogen 1 time, and Ott 2 times live (well ‘dj sets’ for shpongle). I would love to support more (and also to see Prometheus and Younger Brother if they ever played near me)

I didn’t realize how desperate Twisted’s state was. I would love to support but am definitely in no position to afford all these cds I’ve admittedly enjoyed. I realize that makes me the target of much of the vitriol that’s been going around. I guarantee you I am only one of 1000s brave enough to come out and express my position here on this forum. Considering Shpongle has been playing to sold out crowds every time I have seen him (except the show in Knoxville which had maybe 200-300 people and was more intimate than I ever could have expected). I’ve probably met over 500 people who LOOOOOVE shpongle. Now, either Shpongle has an uncharacteristically high following in my region and I just happen to be one of the assholes who hasn’t bought a cd yet, or the trend is to download the cd and see band live. I didn’t realize the music industry was in such a sorry state right now, and I’m sure many are with me. I will do what I can to spread the word about this and also donate what I can (which is really not much, a few dollars to each of my favorite artists will end up costing me quite a bit more than I should really spend right now).

If any of you have heard of Pretty Lights, I definitely like his model: Putting all his music on his website for free, with a donate button. He has also been selling out every show this tour which is quite remarkable considering how new he is to the scene (I just heard of him about 6 months ago). I’m not saying musicians should not be able to expect to make money selling their music. I am just expressing a very popular viewpoint: bootleg the cd, support the artist through live shows.

Obviously that method has not been working if Twisted is about to go under. Like I said, I cannot afford the cds, and also like other posters have said, the cds are not as useful to me as mp3s since I don’t have a cd player in my car. But I would like to support by donating money and will encourage 100s of others I know who claim to love the twisted artists to do so.

Please provide links for YB, Prometheus, and Hallucinogen as well.

Better yet, why not provide links to each of the artists from the twisted shop?
