With the news of Twisted’s financial troubles fresh on my mind I have made it my personal mission to spread my love of Shpongle to as many like-minded individuals as possible in hopes of a) spreading awesome music awareness and b) raising Twisted some capital so they can continue to make such wonderful things for us to enjoy
I’ve had good luck with my facebook contacts, as well as some of the players of an online game I enjoy. At this point at least 2 people have told me they’re definitely going to buy the album and I’m going to be hotly pursuing as many of my other contacts as I can
Easiest and quickest way is to link them right to the twisted main page so they can listen to the sweet, sweet previews of the new album.
Show your support, share something great with the world and help Twisted!!
I try to preach the shpongle gospel as much as i can.
Just the other day i was blasting some in my car and the people next to me asked what it was. They said they had never heard music like that before. It made me all warm and fuzzy inside
I’ve been appending something similar to this to my messages to people:
“This amazing musical gift comes with a small request: if you do like it, please consider buying the album when it comes out at the end of the month, head to twistedmusic.com to preorder ”
I personally will admit that I have downloaded a lot of music from Simon that I did not pay for and just assumed because he was so awesome and the shows sell out that he was fine financially…but apparently not. If someone who considers themselves to be a pretty big fan didn’t even know that, you can’t expect someone who’s totally new to it to have an informed opinion either so throw it in there, especially if they really like it
oh and yeah if they don’t you can just delete them from your contact list hahaha
You guys are awesome! Thanks for spreading the shpongle word…. I think genuine music lovers are always fairly evangelical or at least passionate in spreading the music they like… and possibly that spills over into the filesharing thing, i don’t know… i certainly have tortured many of my long suffering friends making them listen to whatever i think is brilliant at the time… from the cure and ozric tentacles when i was a teenager, to various electronic tracks from ott and benji when we signed them to twisted… jeez, ott and i have discussed “Mr.Blue Sky” by E.L.O for hours!! (we both agree on that one - it’s a fantastic production…. although it probably does provide a clue as to why punk came along!)

The fact is I am ok… I do the DJ thing which makes me a pretty good living… but it is Twisted as a label that has suffered… with no money to invest in new talent, pay Simon H a good wage, pay rent etc…. and it takes a long time in the studio to make a shpongle CD, so it would be nice to make something from it, not just the touring…. and pay the outstanding guest musicians (who don’t DJ) a good fee that reflects their stunning contributions….

You guys warm my heart
It’s good to know that you’re ok :D. I was sad when I read your other posts but now I see it’s not that bad. As you posted something about paying electricity I thought it was worse.
I live in Chile, Latin America. So when I show my friends some Shpongle tracks, they ask “What’s that indian music? I don’t like it” They think it’s too weird. Simple minds…
They just listen to crap like Reggaeton, Rap, and pop music. So, Shpongle is something for myself, and I don’t tell anyone about it. When I see someone is somehow intelligent, it’s something I can start with.
But I can say that I’ve tried a lot and it doesn’t work. Anyway my parents love Shpongle it’s all day long playing in my house.
I am happy to say that I went to Chicago Shpongle DJ set, it was awesome, I don’t know if you remember that Dj set at the Abbey Pub or something like that, but people from USA understand what Shpongle is, and it was fun to meet other Shpongle fans!
I want to meet Raja now, I hope I’ll do it one day.
I don’t think you’ll ever come to Chile. Will you?
Simon your good people. I saw you live for the first time at underground sound 4… That night, was my re-birth as a human. seriously, that shit changed me! You showed up a little late, and Blasted the place with your hallucinogen set…. for like 2 hours… Then the sun started coming up, and the MC says, you guys want some shpongle? Like a boss you spun shpongle for us, for what 2? 2.5 hours. That morning was the most beautiful morning of my life!!!! All the time and emotion you put in to your music is felt all around the world! There is no way i can not spread this stuff. Your music has had me in tears, to laughing, to dancing like a lunatic. People must hear this! Its like my religion!
You, OTT and beji keep trucking man! An i can say for sure that me and a lot of these kick ass people on these forums will be here to do what we can to support you! Cause we want you around for at least 900 more years.
Well here’s what I’ve done so far:
1. Encouraged people on a torrent site to buy the album
2. Opened a Twisted support topic on a popular psy forum
3. E-mailed Easily Embarrassed (a Dutch psychill group, I’m Dutch too) to ask them if they can gather support for Twisted through their network (they’re big fans of and inspired a lot by Shpongle and Ott)
4. Encouraged people in the Psytrance and Psychill hyves (Dutch equivalent of Facebook) to buy Twisted stuff
I might go to more fora and torrent sites, and maybe also youtube, to gather more support, when I have time. But if one of you has time, I say go ahead. Because it really seems to work.
I’ve been trying to convert my brother to Shpongle for the last decade (and so far unsuccessfully!) but I’ll sure be playing him Ineffable when I get my copy.. (mind you his music taste is kinda dodgy).
By default I mention Shpongle to people I meet, simply because it’s the first thing that springs to mind when someone asks what music I like.
I had an idea that we should all buy something from the Twisted store to give as an xmas prezzie / stocking filler to friends and family. I’m sure we’ve all wasted money buying stupid stuff at xmas (like socks and stuff) - might as well put that money to good use instead!
I’ve got a few a people onto Shpongle including my girlfriend. I have a mate who prefers YB to Shpongle. It’s just trying to get them understand and support smaller labels by buying.
To like music like shpongle, you need at least some affinity with the psychedelic music or electronic music in general. I’ve converted a few people, some of them, especially a good friend of mine who plays the guitar, loves psychedelic rock from the 60s and indian traditionnal music as well, has revealed himself to be an even crazier shpongle geek than I am!
I also have that annoying habit when I really like a band to share it with as many people as I can. Sharing(with friends, not file sharing!!), is just what makes music so fun I think.
I’ve also downloaded I a lot of albums too, music from Simon among other’s, but I usually end up buying them because first, I love collecting them, second because when I really like something, I consider the artist should at least live decently so that he can keep on creating his art, and because I want him to!
For instance, I’ve also bought a lot of albums from the pink floyd, the beatles and such cause I just love them, but I’ve decided recently and from the discussions on this forum, not to buy anything from these bands anymore, because first, even after 40 years their albums still sell shamelessly for a fortune which doesn’t make any sense, second, I think these people are rich enough, they don’t need any of my money. They may be brilliant, it’s still not clear whether it makes sense to be that rich. Got to think about it, your wallet’s a political weapon!
