Off the top of my head, the deep focus on trippiness. particularly the detail in vocal manipulation, vocoding…always a surprise. listening to an album is like having a sonic amusement park all to yourself, and has actually produced closed-eye visuals like nothing else I’ve ever heard. ya heard?

The variety of sound and silence, and the surprising strong quotant of “images in the mind” that it inspires in me.
The latter seems to be partly induced by the also “classic/familar” noises that are used to conjure, the
journeying aspect of the CDs. It is one of the “more eloquent” examples of storytelling through the art of
non-verbal sound, that I think also speaks across language, nation, and cultural head-set. All imho
of course.

ive been noticing something lately. its as if the songs are changing. as i grow, my ear for music changes, yet sounds, rhythms, and tones that werent audible now seem to be. but at the same time, the sounds ive grown attached to over the years seem to have faded away. as if to say the music has grown, as i have grown.

shpongle is organic, the music grows, and moves, and lives.

while at the same time it crosses boundaries. it seeps through the cracks, and pulls you from the inside out. to a dream like state, where anything has happened.

Wow I’ve thought about this over the years…

The music is soooo psychedelic to start with and the ammount of layering a deep, deep effects that go into each album are endless.  I just listened to the 4th album again tonight and the one thing that they all have in common and it’s the same with other stuff Psoford is done is how quickly they seem to finish.

I think it’s a sign of a really good album when this happens, the music keeps you interested from start to finish and you don’t get tired of it even after so many listens.

All positive emotions and feelings are conveyed in the music too and on the whole it reflects the motion of the universe I feel…. grin

...the fact that I, when under the influence, thought “this is not human! It must be musical information by the machine elve overloards!” *g*

No really, this music taps so well into the human brain under the influence of psychedelics that most people think it must be super-human.

Essentially, Shpongle is hyper-trippy and extremely exotic.  It’s that exotic sound that really sets them apart.

Yep, Are You Shpongled? is THE trip album.  If you have not heard this album on 4-5+ grams of mushrooms you simply have not tripped.  wink
