Hello friends,
A new Cloudwalker tune is finally finished. I’m really excited about this one.  grin

It’s a remix of one of my most cherished childhood video game themes.
Been working on it since February, so it’s been quite a journey.
Everything in the mix is original content. No loop libraries, presets, etc.
Programed all the synths from scratch using Cakewalk Rapture or the ol’ Alesis Micron (and even a combination of both!)
Nearly all of the percussion was played and recorded live.
First time recording and working with vocals.
This is also my first track using Ableton Live.
The list goes on…

stream and listen to the FLAC version here:

stream and listen to the MP3 version here:

check out the original video game theme here:

hit me up on myspace here:

As always, comments and critiques are welcome with open arms.  smile
A warm and humble thanks to Ott, Simon, and Benji for all the incredible inspiration you’ve given through the years.
You guys are my heros.

Much love,
Cloudwalker

I have to say that this is some awesome music Cloudwalker. If you played this for me without telling me it was your own creation I’d honestly have to say it was an Ott tune. Did you create “selfish orange trees” or did Ott make that for you, LOL. I’ll have to dig out my old Micron that’s been collecting dust in the corner of the studio (the single knob made me mad one too many times). I take it the vocoder stuff is from the Micron? What did you use for the splattery spring reverb effect? smile

hi cloudwalker, nice tune.  very trippy sounds in the background, good stuff.  nice thick bass too.  nice to hear you recorded all the percussion too, not enough of that going around nowadays

with the pace that its at, it feels a bit long for some reason, might do better at around 6-7 minutes

can’t help but notice the Ott influence/style however.  hard not to be influenced by them!

dude, dude and dude again. Fucking awesome. Don’t usually say that on here. Listened to the FLAC verison and was highly impressed. Did you meet up with Ott or something? hahahaha. This is another level for you. Have to agree with the slice about the length but everything else is fantastic. 9.9999999999999999999/10. Can’t give you perfect score yet smile

1000 points for originality!!

Monkey hear, monkey do.

But in cases like this it is hard to do. Even though it sounds similar to sometihng else. The skill in doing it should be applauded.

this is VERY VERY good. Definitely reminds me of Ott…

you are in Utah you say???

I’m in Reno, NV. Did you go to the Evolution festival out there this year? I was lucky enough to play it this year… you guys have a surprisingly strong electronic scene.

anyways, I’m following you on Soundcloud now smile keep up the great work mate

Thanks for the listen and kind words guys.
I hear ya with the legnth of the track.
I’ve tried quite a few different things to shorten it down,
but it always feels like something is ‘missing’ when I do…
If you have any ideas, please feel free to share.

@willsanquil
Thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed it.

@globular
The vocals?  Each one was processed a bit differently.
Tuned them all up first, slather on some filtering and chorus, maybe some reverb,
chop them up, use some pitchshifting to modulate and trip them out, etc…

@Airspeed
Heh, I don’t really intend to be an Ott sound-alike, but at this point I still feel I’m in the learning process.
Can’t help but take influence from those that I’m learning from. smile
Yes, the micron is lovely, especially the filters. I like to put a lot of recorded stuff through it just to “unblandify” it.
The splattery effect? A little bit of lfo’d filtering, some analog delay, and some reverb.

@Sandwich Bros
Agreed with the percussion.  Can’t tell you how BORING sequencing really is.
Love how the live recorded stuff has a much looser and organic feel…
And it’s just plain old fun to do!

@DiMu
Dude, You’re the man.  LOL
Thanks for the kind words. Wouldn’t ever want a perfect score.

@SuRReality, seanzy777
Thanks! Glad you liked it.

@psilogod
Nah, I’m not really a “festival” or “scene” kind of guy.
Most of the stuff they play around here is just too…mainstream.
I have flown out to Cali to see Ott and Younger Brother tho.

Debating now on whether to do another nintendo remix, finish that 15/16 track, or start on an orchestral piece…

I don’t think Ott or Simon were busy copying artists at 21 or 22 like you are.

I most certainly was. Best way to learn.

You should hear the hours of Kraftwerk tributes I did back in 1985. And the Orb ‘influenced’ tracks I was doing in the early ‘90’s.

Great music CW - I’ve been listening whilst reinstalling my studio.

Yes yes, knowledge of Kraftwerk is a must for any electronic artist..still listen to it now…minimum/maximum live album production etc is stunning.. grin
