The DVD is listed as region 0 (region free), which means that it should play on your computer DVD drive.  There are ways to copy the PAL video to your hard drive, convert it to NTSC, and burn it to DVD, but I won’t go into any details about that since it can be used to make illegitimate copies.  I assume having one backup copy would be permissible, though.

(I’m not a copyright lawyer, so I may be wrong).

Here’s the low-down: a region code will prevent certain discs from being played in foreign regions, unless the region code is 0 (no restrictions). But, the European television format is different from that in NA, in resolution (x/y pixels), pixel shape (NTSC pixels have a 4:3 aspect ratio) and frame rate. The PAL standard has slightly higher definition. (It’s too bad they didn’t do this project in HD, unless it’s letterboxed, in which case they may have made an HD master.) Any computer will display the video as it’s meant to be seen, and some (not many) NA DVD players will make a conversion.

...in the age of HD tvs (which are more like multi-format monitors) and dvd players that are made in china or india from computer parts, there should be no problem with playing PAL content in an ntsc country.

Here’s what I found: http://www.amazon.com/Shpongle-Live-Roundhouse-2008/dp/B002WY65SI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1259205078&sr=1-1

I did not make an exhaustive research, but with what I’ve made I found nothing more… So is it reliable? Can someone do more research to back it up?

I also found this on the same site: http://www.amazon.com/Tales-Inexpressible-Shpongle/dp/B00005JD7I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1259204867&sr=1-1

This one should be in another topic, but same things I’ve asked for the previous link is applicable for this one…

Thank you to the one(s) who’ll back this up…  grin

As long as you purchase the DVD, you are allowed to make a backup copy.  In fact, one should make backups of everything; its good practice.  Just make sure you buy a legitimate DVD.

Its easy to convert using a couple freeware programs.

Also, if you have a computer hooked up to your TV; use VLC player.
