Just A Question About The DVD….....

I’m assuming there was a certain amount of tinkering that took place before the DVD was released…..

Dorset Perception looks as though it is being mimed…...or were the live vocals removed?

I could be wrong but it looks slightly out of synch at times…..

Just wondering how much studio enhancement took place before Simon and Raja were happy with it…...Obviously with such intricate samples etc etc one would expect there to be quite a lot programmed in beforehand such as the Shpongly voices…..

This is in no way a criticism…i’m just curious as to how much of the original concert remained?

Anyone got any thoughts?

To me it looked exactly as performed when I was standing at the front of the theatre. Not only that, but the DVD presents the entire concert from beginning to end. The synch issues may have just been in the editing, inserting close-ups, etc. but it would be easy to tell if the audio stream had been messed with in any way, and it’s pristine!

you looked exactly the same on the dvd, as you did that night!

there were some really good candid shots of everyone on stage. some really good facial expressions from simon and raja. even if some of the footage doesnt exactly line up, it gives a great presentation of the night.

btw why is that guy in a cloak?

That’s Chris from the Bays, I guess that’s a Halloween costume, it kind of suits him! Maybe he’s shy?

If you are in the U.S. and use codex converters on your PC, the PAL format may not sync up properly.

yes, it’s not *completely* a live-dvd! wink
I most enjoy the intro of the menu, what’s this song actually?? and then I enjoy the interview with raja and simon (simon doesn’t talk enough though wink).

my point about the dvd is this, and i’m only using Dorset Perception as an example….......Dorset Perception, when the singing kicks in, has a harmony…there is a lower voice and the high voice…..in view of the fact that only one singer was onstage i’m just curious as to what she was singing…was it the lower or higher part.

i guess the only people that can give us an insight into this is either Simon, Raja or anyone else involved in the mixing of the dvd.

whatever, it’s still an incredible dvd and a great reminder of the show…i was there but i just don’t recall the vocals sounding that clear. I thought at times they were struggling to hear themselves as the sound wasn’t that great from where i was standing.

i thought that this year it was far better

i’m just curious as to how much overdubbing or remixing took place because the dvd sounds incredible!!!!

If you are in the U.S. and use codex converters on your PC, the PAL format may not sync up properly.

The syncing seemed more or less fine, save for the occasional cymbal hit.  The biggest issue I had trying to play it was making the dvd work in Media Player Classic.  I gave up and ended up using Windows Media Center.

My next project will be making an NTSC version to watch on my girlfriend’s big tv (and no, you can’t have a copy).  The concert itself is easy to convert, but the menus… not so much.

If you find a way to make a working NTSC copy so I can play on my big tv that would be awesome!  I have the dvd but can only play it on my computer…

I could rip it and reburn it sure but I want it menus and all smile

The rip and reburn would be easy, but having just the concert itself would kind of suck.

I’ve found a couple of methods on one video site, but they’re both far from perfect.  One is to copy the dvd to your hard drive and edit the .ifo files to make the dvd player think it’s an NTSC dvd.  The problem with that is that the menus and video are still PAL format (720x500something, 25fps), so it won’t play in many American dvd players.  The other method is to buy ConvertXtoDVD, which can automatically import the concert and video clips, but you lose the menus.

The best option for now, if you really want the original dvd on your tv, is to buy a cheap universal dvd player (region free, plays PAL and NTSC on either type of tv) or connect your tv to your computer via rca, s-video, dvi, or hdmi.

Also, it seems like as of this morning someone posted a torrent of the dvd.  Hopefully everyone downloading it will die in a fiery auto accident on the way home from Thanksgiving dinner.

Sorry to be a pain in the ass, but can we get an ‘official’ or ‘semi-official’ statement about the legitimacy of this amazon-shpongle-NTSC-DVD release?
Thanks very much.

Ya know, they should do a digital download of the audio from the show. Like $10 for the whole thing on MP3. I would listen to it again and again…
