I am a huge fan of Mystical Experiences by The Infinity Project.

For the longest time I didnt even know that Simon contributed to that album.

It was actually because of that album that I got into Shpongle later on. I would love to someday hear a remix of some of the songs off that album but it is so rarely referenced.

So whatever happenned to TIP records anyway?

I know that Raja helped start the label and wiki says in 1998 TIP went defunct because of the flying distribution scandal and I have no idea what that is referring to.

Anyone?

What was this Flying Records distribution scandal? I remember around that time the Blue Room Released went under because authorities found a sheet of *something* inside one of their exports. Official story: the label head went through a nasty divorce and had to bust up the label, but that ain’t what I heard…
Anyway, not sure where this is going, sorry!

That’s exactly what I said. I was hoping someone had an idea about what this info on wiki is talkin about.

Hmm.. I always thought that TIP World is the follow-up of TIP Records.. But as it seems I’m pretty wrong, right?

Yes I thought so too..

Anyway, they have a new “colour compilation” coming out: http://www.arabesquedistribution.com//index.php?option=com_artistavenue&task=singleCd&id=2083&Itemid=1

No you are not wrong, TIP.World is the reincarnation of TIP Records.

I don’t know what the scandal behind Flying was, other than going bust and owing lots of money to the record labels that they distributed, but I guess that’s enough of a scandal without any back story.

hmm.. the sound is pretty lame imo, it is just standard pop-electro somehow, sad that this label is forced to release such music in order to keep on going…

So is Mystical Experiences exclusive to Tip World then?

I would love to hear a remix done.

Yes I think it was, it was re-issued a few years back as a double cd with Mystery of the Yeti…

Flying Rhino Records as a commercial venture did indeed close sometime before 2005. But I believe it was a decision by the owners (who incidentaily are friends and fellow music collaborators with Simon P) due to low sales in part thanks to the downloading of illegal mps on the then filesharing networks such as Napster and others. As a label their early work was ground breaking and my only wish was that they had formed themselves as a group & put out an album rather than work under many alias’s and offer only compliation albums. On the first Flying Rhino album Simon worked with Slinky Wizard (alias of the owners and close associates of Flying Rhino Record) on one track “Shitty Stick” which for me at the time sums up very well the excellence of the emerging (Goa) Trance genre. A beautiful little number with an albeit questionable title smile. In recent times Flying Rhino has re-emerged as a digital only non-profit label and they generously offer many tracks for download. You can hear the Shitty Stick track on their website. As to them being responsible for the demise of TIP Records I dont think it is a reasonable statement to make. TIP records did have problems due to being owed money from their distributors but AFAIK Rhino were a label not a distributor for TIP. The real question is where is TIP World now as I cant find their web site??

nickster, the Flying that is being referred to here is Flying Distribution not Flying Rhino Records.

The TIP.World website at www.tipworld.co.uk does seem to have disappeared. Actually DNS requests for that address are timing out, not being returned unknown, so perhaps their hosting company is having problems.

They have got a MySpace page though http://www.myspace.com/tipworldrecords, it says Last Login: 21/11/2009 so they are still active there.

Just noticed this new compilation at Psyshop.  The Logic Bomb track sounds great, not sure about the style of first couple of tracks, glad to see them up and running again.

It appears that the reason the TIP.World website has gone is that they have relaunched TIP records!!
