I know there’s obviously costs involved, but one can only dream of a Twisted DVD in 5.1. I personally really enjoy listening to DTS music, especially Jean Michelle Jarre and Mike Oldfield.
So do any of you know of any psychedelic releases in 5.1?
There are two I know of: Flaming Lips released many of their studio albums in 5.1 versions. They are more in to psychedelic downtempo, pop and indie rock (a tiny bit like Younger Brother perhaps), rather than psychedelic ambient or trance.
More in the ambient, electro direction is MoveD from Highdelberg, Germany.
BT- This binary universe was recorded in 5.1 surround. And the videos that come with it are insanely psychadelic, along with the music. I suggest you give it a listen. Its very unique music, but put the DVD on, or cd on close your eyes, use what tools you need to use and you will have your mind blown. The sounds that are all over the place in 5.1 and the clarity is UNREAL!
Bonzaisushi is right on the money! BT did a great job with this album and the videos are just as awesome. The music isn’t psychedelic in a psy/goa way but when you combine the video with the music is becomes a very psychedelic experience in my opinion.

Track 6 is my favorite track, I mabye be the only one, but the glitching of the cello in invisible man reminds me very much of some of the glitching/stutter edits bt does with that stuff on the album.
If bt, simon and Ott all got together, i think the universe would implode. Just sayin :D
oh i’ve heard this binary universe, i really like it - but i haven’t heard it in 5.1. i’ve also listened to zaireeka by the flaming lips by backing up 4 cars, opening the boots, and playing the 4 CDs simultaneously. awesome times.
i’m having trouble finding MoveD on the interwebs, though…
You can browse SACD releases on Amazon, there is some Pink Floyd coming out etc, or is that too mainstream?
well i’ve heard the dark side of the moon in dts (originally it was recorded in four channels, though that concept never really took off), and yes, it’s fantastic.
There’s a lad in Vancouver, BC Canada who produces and does live shows in 5.1, Nystagmus aka Anahata. Completely mindblowing, but I don’t think either of his albums were 5.1.
