In the spirit of finding the shpongle mask in alex greys “st. albert” painting.
If you havent heard about the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, or how its moving towards expansion. you can check it out on his website. http://www.alexgrey.com

The Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, CoSM, recently acquired a 40 acre interfaith retreat center as a permanent home.

Here creative people will join together to build an oasis for spiritual and cultural renewal.

Sixty-five miles north of New York City and just a 20-minute walk from the MetroNorth train stop at New Hamburg, in the town of Wappinger, CoSM will reopen a magnificent new Chapel exhibition environment for the artwork that has become a context for a growing community.

People of all ages, colors, and faiths from around the globe will pilgrimage to this place of beauty to enter into contemplative union with the artworks
and nature.

Im interested in how much alex influences shpongle, and vise versa.

Also, Im waiting for a shpongled event at this new refuge for the slightly enlightened.

I would love to go to the chapel! I’ve been to the little studio space in Chelsea, but not upstate NY. I’d love to see the sacred mirror paintings all lined up just so. Alex Grey’s book “Mission of Art” is a worthwhile read for any artist.

I used to enjoy his work until I started questioning all the symbolism in it.  As soon as you visit his website, you’re greeted with the masonic eye in the triangle prominently displayed, as it is above all of the “sacred” mirrors. If you check out the piece entitled “Holy Fire” http://www.alexgrey.com/a-gallery/h-fr.html you’l,l see a ton of esoteric symbolism rooted in the luciferian babylonian and egyptian mystery religions…

Might want to check out this portrait: http://www.alexgrey.com/obama.html and read the little blurb. Is that the Alex you thought you knew?

I was a bit suprised to see the Obama painting too but maybe he was just been all Americian and opptimistic, I dunno I’m not fromt he US, I know it’s not a print I would buy.

If you’ve seen the World Spirit DVD he did with Kenji Williams he does a track on there called Lamentations which is about the sorry state of the US and corruption from above so I don’t feel he’s into all that shit.  The eye in the triangle most probably represents the all seeing eye of God and universal conciousness rather that the Mason’s.

Plus Posford has played live with him last year and is doing so again this year (see other current thread) so I think were safe!

Look closely at the egyptian sun disc with wings in the first and third panel of Holy Fire, as well as the cobra heads in the first…
Also, the division of the eye in the triangle into thirds as well as the light rays surrounding it are unmistakably masonic…

Be great if someone could ask him at the show…

Hm, food for thought I say… I guess you can see a lot of little ‘mystical’ symbols and stuff in some of his work, but most of his stuff, like the sacred mirror paintings for example, are pretty easy reads in the art sense. Especially if you read the artist’s statement! I mean most of it’s very intricate and detailed and all of that, but to be totally frank, it’s not very intellectual and completely representational. Which is why he’s an outsider artist and not really collected by serious Guggenheim-style collectors. Maybe they’re uneasy with various little bits of occultish ephemera! I’m not so crazy about his take on homosexuality either, which is clearly depicted as degenerate behaviour in many of his canvases. But it’s still damn trippy, seeing stuff like people with invisible skin and weird electrical qi lines flowing through their venal systems!

Just because Masons have that symbology doesn’t make it masonic. Esoteric knowledge is also known outside freemasonry. Where did the mason gain their knowledge from? I believe it was the ancient egyptians.

Alex Grey - 0

After hearing Barack Obama’s speech in BerIin, and noting the degree of excitement and hope that he generated throughout many countries besides the US, I started to see him as one of the first true “world leaders.”

I think that’s naive myself. It’s the same strings being pulled just a different puppet I’m afraid. Only in the illusion we have of a polictical system that he is a leader. A leader leads. He is being told what to do by the people behind the scenes.

So digilatex he is either naive and doesn’t know, or he does know!!

I think the symbols are in his work for the same reasons that they’re occurring more and more frequently in pop culture. Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Men Who Stare at Goats, Sherlock Holmes, James Bond…and those are just the movies. Constant bombardment of masonic symbolism. Why? Marketing freemasonry as fashionable to the under thirty set? Macy’s, a huge dept. store in the states, even has a clothing line…

For a self-described mystic, his blurb about the Obama painting seems a bit…let’s say, commonplace, or even naive as you put it, Dimu. But I think he knows exactly what he’s doing. Describing a political figure as “highly evolved” and a “world leader” smacks of new-age religion nwo propaganda to me.  Expansion of the COSM, full moon ceremonies…Sounds a bit culty, imo.

I find it hard to buy his claim of a divine “vision” of the 9/11 imagery, but who knows what large doses of tryptamines can do?

I would not have thought that Alex Grey would be a freemason, but stranger things have happened so can’t rule it out. I’ve seen that clip, even sampled it actually hahaha. The 9/11 thing was freaky and I never thought about it from the other angle as I never thought Alex to be part of that, so it never occured to me.
