I was wondering if anyone could direct me to some music/album that is better produced than Shpongle. By that I mean more textured, crisper sounding, and hence more psychedelic.

I’ve heard a few albums recently which come close, but you rarely hear the depth of sounds found in Shpongle.

Any suggestions?

I’ve only really come across three: Sensient, Nagual Sound Experiment and Venetian Snares.  Pretty different electronic music than Shpongle though.  NSE being the closest.

“Better Production” is such a vague and subject-able term.
Define “texture” “crispness” and “depth” please…
Because my opinion of those 3 words is VASTLY different from yours…

I hate to say it but if Shpongle isn’t as psychedelic as it gets you’re gonna have to turn to drugs. Listened to Ineffable again (again, again, again) this time through top-notch headphones in a dark room, critical audition, I was no longer here.

I have never heard anything that can compare to Shpongle,production-wise….And most of his presonal sounds are now being copied worldwide….. But all will lead to a higher reality one day!!!xD

Yeah, but is the production BETTER than Si P’s? I’m not speaking for Flavius, but perhaps a reason why Shpongle production sounds not-crisp-enough is because there are so many live recordings mixed in, but that’s what takes it higher, makes it trippier. So maybe the quality of the field recordings could be improved (?) but the production, I doubt it. They’re gonna have to invent new gear if you want to improve on that (like when the Nord Lead came out).

i totally agree mate, but i don’t come from a technical background so my definition of those 3 words is not only different to yours, but probably misguided as well.

so yes, it would certainly help to be able to clearly define what i mean by better production when starting a thread like this one, but i don’t think i’d be very good at doing so.

I mean… from my standpoint and view only…
(other than shpongle)

Ishq is some of the best “produced” and well “textured” music out there.
Insanely psychedelic and full of depth.

I’d say the same for Jon Hopkins. Now THAT guy’s music has “texture”.
There’s something special about it that tickles the ol’ braincells in an extremely beautiful and bizarre way…

Closest for me would be Animal Collective. Pure genius

The only album which I found comes near to the production of Twisted is Liquid Strangers - Intergalactic Spalstick album.  I was very suprised at how good it is and the level of production on it.  However production is a broad term and I would say nothing comes close to Shpongle but the quality of sound on the LS album is outstanding, very crisp, lovely bass but not psychedelic as it is Dub step.

cheers for the suggestions. i’ve been thinking about this, but maybe ‘sound engineering’ describes better what i’m referring to. or does that leave it just as vague?

An album I would compare would be ‘Up’ by Peter Gabriel with programming and engineering by Richard Chappell. Although more subtle (exept a few frightning breaks) it has very psychedelic crunchy sounds mixed very organic. ‘Signal To Noise’ with vocals by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan has a very shponglish craving.
