Well I am.
If anyone was at Winter Warpdrive 5 in St. Louis then you know Bluetech destroyed that place and got no credit for it. I did see some dude with a shpongle shirt which was cool. The rest of the night was filled with horrible dubstep music. All anyone talked about was the bass drops or whatever the fuck. That shit should not be considered music, its a scourge and its impossible to have a good conversation about electronic music where I live without some jackass trying to justify dubstep.
I dont know why im posting this, just need to bitch a little.
burial is fucking amazing. some of liquid stranger’s stuff has dubstep influences and is ridiculously good. chase and status did 2 dope dubstep tracks.
for the most part, i agree, but you can’t lump it all into a whole.
if you don’t listen to burial, there’s something seriously wrong with you.
I don’t know… Heyoka produces some interesting sounds. Drippy alien sounds.
And it looks like Shpongle asked him to open?

I think psilogod has it right. There are gems in every genre.
dubstep is like any genre, you have to find the gems among the crap.
most of what you hear out there is crap, but there are some phenomenal producers in the dubstep realm. Same with psytrance…a lot of cookie cutter producers just ripping each others formulas and not making anything unique or original.
Eskmo, for one, is next level imo…just listen to it. He’s on par with Posford in terms of complexity and imagination with a completely unique sound. I wouldn’t even consider what he does ‘dubstep,’ just heavily influenced by it.
There are always exceptions, that’s for sure. I will check out burial with an open mind.
And about eskimo, like psilogod, I really don’t consider it dubstep at all, at least not the (admittedly few) tracks I’ve heard from him.
It just seems to me that the ratio between awesome and crap is really skewed in this genre. And if only a couple artists actually makes something worth listening to, one could even question if they belong in the same genre at all since it must obviously be quite different from the rest. I would even go as far as to argue that the extremely few good “dubstep” trakcs I’ve listened to, has had more psy trance or dnb in them than dubstep.. :p

One of the biggest problems I have with dubstep is how fucking evil most artists in the genre sound. Sounds like some kind of hostile takeover music… not really what I want when I am tripping or trying to chill, or dance, or… anything… such useless music. On the other hand, a few acts have definitely impressed me. The Glitch Mob has some fucking great tracks that make dance floors explode. Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQRh_koli9E
Sorry Astrognomix just cos it may make dance floors explode, does not make it into the “fucking great tracks” category. If Glitch Mob are the best of that genre then it supports my decision not to listen to dubstep. I even listen to a few clips to give it a fair test. Check out the girl dancing to it. I like her dress sense but she can’t dance Dancing to Glitch Mob
That gal follows the movement and prose of dubstep QUITE well… probably what makes it so weird. It’s a robotic genre, and from where I like it, and call it danceworthy, I suppose I could say the same about Lady Gaga… Tolerable, even interesting, but not in my everyday playlist, or even library for that matter.
Good to see it`s not just ME who thinks dubstep is a bit dull and “simple”......The only one I can listen to and really enjoy is Nagual Sound Experiments album from 07 “Invisible Movements” (which is relly dubsteppy at times, but still more psychedelic and of a higher production-quality than we hear of dubstep nowadays)....Its really a good album, have to listen to it again some day soon:-)!! xD

I haven’t really followed it much but must agree that the Burial stuff is outstanding and Liquid Strangers - Intergalactic Slapstick is one of my most listened to albums lately, the production is stunning.
