Is anyone else just totally sick of “Dubstep”?

Liquid Strangers is very inspiring. His ‘Bass Drops’ are so nicely tweaked that they sound like Didgeredoos.

PS: IMHO, the girl dancing to Glitch Mob is on her way to being a talented belly dancer. I sure know I can’t move like that wink

What would be a good album by Burial to check out? Cause I listened to Untrue and found it to be horrible.
Liquid Stranger I liked when I heard it, any album recomendations on him?

I don’t have Liquid Strangers album ‘Intergalactic Slapstick’ yet, but the songs I heard at myspace sound very good.

Ok I’m going to check out these tips and see if I like them. I can’t say I don’t like it until I give it more of a chance. Just don’t like what I’ve heard so far that’s all.

I have been following and producing dubstep since pretty near to the beggining.

Dubstep is an offshot of Dub, Garage, and partially genre’s like Drum n Bass, Electro, Techno, Funk, Soul, Eastern, Anything really! That’s why it’s so amazing and diverse.

Yes, I agree alot of it is the “wah wah wah” wobbly stereotype, hell, I find it hard to find dubstep that I like but there is alot of good stuff out there!

Some people on here will like Dubstep, some will not, the seperation mainly occurs between people who like to listen to big obvious melodies, music with strong harmonic content (artists like Shpognel etc), and people that like deep atmospheres, subtle grooves, and big dynamic basslines (alot of dubstep). Some people like both.

Some dubstep has much more of a dub influence, some a garage influence, some a techno influence, the list goes on, some of it even has psytrancy/world music influences (Shpongle esque)

I’ll list a few recommendations, I wont list much of the more ‘minimal’ stuff as I’m presuming it’s more likely people on this forum will prefer the stuff with a much larger harmonic content, but please don’t judge the more ‘minimal’ stuff as being booring. It just may not be obvious to you where the progression and melodies are, some dubstep is booring and they’re not there. But with some of it, it is there, and you just have to tune your ear a little bit to find it! Start focusing on the atmospheres, the energy and dynamics of the bass, the syncopation of the groove, etc etc, you may find some enjoyment! I’m not trying to convert anyone that much really tho because I understand sometimes it’s just each to their own.

Anyway onto the recommendations, can’t complain about any of this stuff being booring, plenty of musicality here:

Nagual Sound Experiment - Frontier http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJWp083Pv3Y (dub influenced amazing artist)
Reso - Hemisphere http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y7qD7X-fiM (listen to the second drop especially!)
Hyetal - Neon Speech http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g39FoP9xCJk (amazing beautiful track which is on the label i’m signed to)
Burial - Ghost Hardware http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHtNPzaHO7k (mentioned before, dubstep superhero)
Clouds - Protecting Hands http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHxEQZtug5I (nice guitar lead dubstep)
Toasty - Angel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHzprcUel2Q (melodic dubstep classical with an angelic vocal)
Jamie Vex’d - Radient Industry http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfFre__TWhA (nice funky, breaky dubstep with a stonking bassline)
Boxcutter - Brood http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pJGhIc2E40 (dark glitch dubstep that evolves like mad)
Boxcutter - Arecebo Message http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVvnUpOg5IA (same as, but listen to Boxcutters more uplifting stuff too)
Reso - Logical http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTDtumartzY (nice, trancy, melodical halfstep)

oh and I almost forgot, here’s my stuff if you want to listen to it, heavily harmonic dubstep alot of the time: http://www.youtube.com/colecodubstep

Hope that’s enough for now, let me know if you want anymore!

Well Prometheus was playing very very very nice Dubstep track (probably from his upccoming downtempo album) On second day of Shpongle Live @ roundhouse.

Also Nagual Sound Experiment is quite trippy as well,
and my favourite: Skism - The Blank (16Bit Remix)

Ah Dubstep’s alright, you just gotta dig, dig, dig…

Warrior Queen - Poison Dart
Moderat - Seamonkey (Untold rmx)
Shackleton - Blood On My Hands (Ricardo Villalobos rmx)

That’s some good stuff!

I just remembered this thread, and felt I needed to play necromancer for a bit. raspberry

I was listening to dubstep for an entire evening (involuntary at first, I might add) a little while ago, and I now have to admit that yes, there is indeed some mighty fine dubstep tunes out there. It just took some forcing and a pinch of psychedelics to realize it.

Still not a fan of the monotone wobbly stuff though, and firmly retain my previous views of it as “dull, uninspiring and generally dreadful”.

Burial - Near Dark has been running on repeat here for most of the day, which is why I remembered this thread. It’s a very repetitive track, but at the same time it’s not.

If anyone can recommend me similar stuff to the untrue album, I’d very much appreciate it. Hard to find the good stuff.

A lot by liquid records (Nagual, Slackbaba,Mood Deluxe) is in the psy-dubstep line. A track definitely to check out is by Beatnik “Function Creep (Original Mix)”, which has a very long dubstep-y “break” (well, ok, half the track) in a goa track.

Personally I like the combo’s of dub-step, breaks, drum n bass with psy trance, if only cause the endless din of the goa kick can get boring. One of the matters that actually makes Shpongle or The Zap so good is that they do have more inventive percussion then just dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-.... and better basslines then the same too.

I don’t think I have ever listened to dubstep music, but am interested in checking out the GOOD stuff.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Also, this may be a dumb question, but what is a ‘bass drop’?

Thanks!

wouldn’t call this pure dubstep, but influenced by it as well as breaks and psy and is highly recommended.
