don’t know if you’re in the States, but for your budget, I’d get:

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ZED24/

or

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/1642VLZ3/

or

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MFXi12/

Sweetwater is cool cuz if you need to, you can break the total up into 3 payments over 3 months.

The Allen & Heath looks appealing, especially with. I’m not knowledgable about mixers. I only have a soundcraft compact 4 which I have a mic and my bass or guitar connected to. I think I have it connected right. I got confused when Simon had that video showing his studio and how he controlled the levels from the computer via the mixer etc.

I think he has the outputs from his soundcards routed to his mixer, thus being able to control the ‘volume’ from the mixer faders. It looks to me that he records into the box, but then physically mixes with his Mackie 8 bus + outboard.

as far as mixers, you can’t go wrong with A+H, Soundcraft or Mackie. They are the best budget mixers in terms of preamps, channels and quality you can buy.

I meant to say the Allen & Heath looks appealing with the USB easy connectivity to the computer.

yea, unfortunately it only streams the stereo out I believe which is a shame. If it allowed multi-tracking it would be amazing, but also more expensive I’m sure.

Gnome Doser, if you run a Mac check out the Vestax Spin- it’s just a few hundred dollars but has a great hardware component (midi controller- not technically a mixer, it’s your computer which does the mixin’). It takes tracks from your iTunes, so if you have wav or aiff files you can mix them and record at the same level of quality. It’s a really fun machine.

Oh sorry guys I was talking about a cd turntable, like a Pioneer CDJ. But a good one within $700 budget?

I guess nobody knows! But I’d still check out the Spin Gnome Doser, it has killer jog wheels almost identical to the VCI-100/300 which are mucho mas caro ($$$). So they’re going to act just like CDJs, but like I said the tunes are all in your computer. Which is better! It has multiple cue points, shows your album artwork on the turntables, looks deadly (the jog wheels are illuminated plexi), and you just tap a button to record. Plus it’s way cheaper than what you’re looking at. But it only works with Mac.

I get newsletter mail from Native instruments and remember seeing this. It’s a controller for their Traktor program. http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-kontrol-x1/?content=1041
