I am sure to get trashed by all the euphoric Shpongloids out there, mind you I am one of them, but I must comment….

The DJ Set completely bashes the essence of Shpongle. If you are a Shpongle nut and want to experience Shpongle on steroids….Bass Bashing steroids…. this is the trip. And it is worth it mind you for what that is - I had a great time, but the DJ set is not remotely close to the what you hear on disc.

If you go thinking you are going to actually hear the awesome great intricate soundscapes and musicality of Shpongle in this DJ set….. ain’t happening. Its a bass bashing beat driving ear thumping version of Shpongle and in my opinion, this is noteworthy. Its different, its not, in my opinion what makes Shpongle great.

I would gladly pay thrice the ticket price to see Sphongle play a venue that can honor his music.

I was also surprised to see the average age attending this concert. I would have thought an older crowd, or some older folks. Seems like 24 was the average or so. This probably why Shpongle amped the bass/beat… the crowd was young and for the most part they only care about the mosh.

The black light dancers…... I can say that it wasn’t expected so I can’t be too harsh, but I am a performer and choreographer myself, and with the exception of a few gimmicks with the glow in dark shapes…. they just moved around. There was virtually no choreography. I could (serious comment) do so much more with this. I was yawning through most of the black art stuff. Great idea, great costumes, great potential,,,, what they did with it was a real yawner.

Summary…. beware. If you want hallucinogen style Shpongle, go.  but be prepaired for something loud that will rearranges your innards, not journeys to far away places in your mind.

David.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you have clearly stated yours lol.

And my opinion is that I have been a huge Shpongle fan for years now and the fact that I got to see him live was absolutley amazing.

The way he threw in the remixes of songs, and mixed some himself up there was fasinating!

If I had the money I would probably follow him throughout the US.

And as far as the dancers, not being a performer and choreographer myself I also found that exhilarating.

I do agree it was a Hallucinogen style Shpongle, but hey… Simon is Hallucinogen so what do you expect?

My ultimate life goal is to see Shpongle live with all its members.

I agree… the thrust of my review is precisely that this production is Hallucinogenized Shpongle - thats great in and of itself… but it isn’t Shpongle in the truest sense. I would love to see the full Shpongle experience too, but if the performance is Hallucinogized…. that would suck, because that isn’t Shpongle. I have seen/heard Shpongle Hallucinogenized, now I want to hear SHPONGLE

I am waiting for someone to say…. what do you expect, it was a ‘DJ SET’ and that pretty much sums up what it is, get a grip. I am fine with this, but others out there that go to experience Shpongle, be prepared for Hallucinogen styled Shpongle… thats all.

I stand by my remarks about the black light art/dance - the costumes were awesome but the theater/dance was lackluster. I am sure there is more to the story that I am aware of, so I don’t need to slam this too hard, I just feel that there was SO MUCH MORE potential with it.

Even though I am critical of this performance… I would still go, and I recommend going to anyone that is inclined to go.

Here is my two cents about this post and the show.

First off, Simon did an awesome job on both sets.

The Hallucinogen set was very good. I have listened to much hallucinogen and enjoyed what he did as some of the stuff he was playing I had never herd before and had a bit of a different vibe.

The Shpongle DJ set was not bad at all. The songs that where played where ALL offical shpongle releases except for the dub remix of gamma goblins and another 1 I didn’t recognize. Simon mixed it up with the originals and the remixes. The mix had energy in parts and others not so much which was good. As far as the DJing it’s self went it wasn’t half bad. Being a DJ myself I give it 9/10. Their were a few tracks that weren’t played but honestly the ones that weren’t would have been much more amazing live anyways.

The dancers were amazing, I wasn’t even on drugs at the show and the dancers along with the music brought back some interesting flash backs.(hahahaha!)

Having herd from my girl friend about the show in 2007, I was quite pleased to see Simon kicked it up notch.

Performance, music, talent, etc.. 10/10. I thought it was excellent.

Now for the negative…..

The showbox market is WAYYYY to small to have talent like aminita/osiris, hallucinogen, and shpongle at it.

In fact it was so packed it kinda ruined the show, I felt that it was disrespect towards Simon and all the dancers and fans to put such an awesome show in such a lame venue…

Lack of T-shirts was a bummer, got the last one tho. Was pleased to see CD’s were for sale (i’d much rather get them at a show were I know the money is going into the artists pocket).

So yes, it had some pro’s and con’s but nothing was due to the music nor the dancers. My only complaint was the venue.

No encore response at the end from simon (kinda bummed me out) however I am sure it was due to time.

IMHO, if you REALLY want to see what shpongle is all about get some money together and go see them live out in Europe. I’m planning on doing that this year and going to the Ozora festival in Hungary. Should be an awesome time.

Thats my two cents

Awesome job Simon and Thank you!
