Hi,

I am looking for ethnic vocal samples similar to those used in Tales of the inexpressible. I have recently aquired Spectrasonics Vocal Planet which has some amazing samples - especially those used in DMT smile however, I really would like to get my hands on some more. Does anyone have any idea where I could look?

Thanks to those with the knowledge.

In my opinion, you should try getting your own recordings, since everyone that have tried Vocal Planet will probably recognize the samples you use, and other people will more than likely include them in their own songs.

I was _really_ disappointed the first time I heard the entire latino-trumpet part in “My head feels like a frisbee” in a sampleset called “Latin World”, because I truly believed that Simon had travelled the world for “Tales of the inexpressible”. But of course, it’s a matter of taste, though I still think that a track gains more of its own integrity by using unique samples.

Another option is to manipulate them so they are not easy recognizable, that way you obtain your own sound and stil benefit from the organic parts of vocal samples smile

But you could take a look at Zero-G’s Vocal Forge, it’s not typical ethnic, tho.

I would love to record my own samples, however, at the moment it is a matter of finances (just bought a new synth and cant justify spending any more on even just a mic) and finding someone with the appropriate voice.

On the matter of manipulating a sample - I would not even consider placing a sample in a track that has not been modified to some degree by myself - it is a stubborn pride thing that gets in the way, plus I feel everything in a track should have some element of personal involvment by the creator/s. not to mention manipulating audio is just down right FUN! smile

Thanks for the advice on Vocal Forge - will do a little homework on this one smile

Cheers

Tsk, tsk, you gearheads raspberry

What synth did you get? When the finances is right, believe me, a good mic is not “just a mic”, you can make insane amounts of insane sound with it smile
Do rythms and stuff with your mouth and add some effects, does wonders for psy smile

And right on, all songs should have some emotion invested in them, IMHO.
