I recently found the band through a flying rhino mix compilation and a remix of the spongle track crystal skulls. The album with an eponymous title is a pleasant surprise. I was expecting a dub/mellow breaks workout but instead the album was a collection of mellow euphoric grooves and ambient landscapes. The sound takes you on a journey from the upbeat vocal trip-hop of the opening tracks into a sink of feedback and then back out into a sea of ambient tranquillity. The beats are soft and reflective with some tracks capturing ORB and Pink Floyd influences. For more reviews check out my website. It’s a really cool album. The concept behind the music speaks of a higher intelligence.

On a slightly related note…
I always thought it was weird that this album was released with so little fanfare from Twisted.
Normally, every album from Twisted has a huge build up, pre-release.
It was barely even mentioned when it came out.

And then people wonder why Backroom Beats is defunct!

The WRA ablum was great and I played it loads, all the stuff that came out on the Backroom label was quality and a great shame that it’s Kappooot now..

On releases the Shpongle 4 viynl is available now but there was also no notification that it was out, I got my copy but stumbled upon it.. ohh
