It is with sadness that Platipus Records has closed… They used to release great music. I’m sure you may remember Union Jack? There Will Be No Armageddon, 1995. Pure trance music, extremely well done, with a huge progressive ambiance within. Well it’s over…
Nowadays small labels struggle to survive… Yes download is good to discover music, it might be the future? Or another way of getting music onto new supports… But never forget, artists work first because of passion, but, it’s still a work, so they need money, labels need money… You may donate if you like the music to support, you may buy the CD if you want what the artist has achieve, and to continue releasing what you like… Or you may not, then don’t complain or say that download is best, it is not yet!

That’s a great shame and have bought Platipus cd’s over the years.  The number of small independants is so small now compared to years ago, just the other week Gio Makyo of Dakini records sent out a newsletter regarding the position of the label which isn’t too great either… hmmm

I always buy a cd of an album even if I can download a flac file probably as I grew up trawling through 12” and albums in shops, hopefully people will start notice the loss of decent labels..

Labels come and go, and the ones that stick around (and Platipus did for a good long time) invariably have to change their focus to keep afloat. And some young upstart will come along and school the elders! As long as you support (as in BUY) the music, who can complain, Platipus had a great ride and I’m sure they all have some nice Scandinavian furniture from the deal. Art of Trance were their best act IMO. Might as well add an RIP to Matsuri (what the hell happened Tsuyoshi? Just completely went insane), Blue Room and Flying Rhino.
