...You are not alone dude, I wish they never did the last album….

That’s a bit strong… “I wish you had NEVER MADE YOUR MUSIC!”

I will be sure to keep my art locked deep within my dark ruined soul, lest anyone experiences indifference!!!!

Or, as you might say: so that nobody is, ‘like…“meeeh”’

How do you feel about Justin Bieber?

Didn’t know you where such a child… You took that out of context, I said that I didn’t like all the tunes. What is your problem? I have loved everything you’ve done, but not ALL of the songs on the new album and this is your response? Fucking unbelievable dude.

Well surely you can understand where he is coming from HelloMellow.. This is all some pretty heavy handed criticism of his personal/professional work. I mean you make music, how would you feel if your fans offered you this kind of “constructive criticism”?  I’m sorry but comparing anything Simon has made thus far to “pop-ish ect” is just disrespectful to his work.

well.. that’s not how I meant it, I just said that i LOVE all the tunes he has made, i have bought all the albums on vinyl and preordered everything etc etc. but I didn’t like the last album, I think that 60% of it is cool, but I didnt like the rest of it. Ofcourse, it isnt “pop” but, he sat a pretty high standard for what he was making, and therefor i called it poppish… I think my opinion is hard to explain in english, and im sorry for that… All respect to simon, but i think his last post was childish…

This is a forum right? I guess people are entitled to have their own opinion and express it here, if HelloMellow wished they never did the last album or think it sounds pop-ish, what the heck?? That’s just an opinion like any other, you might not agree with it, still if you get offended by someone else’s opinion about something you love, then maybe what you’re looking for isn’t a forum but a fan club… I really don’t see in what way is he being disrespectful to Simon and Raj…I didn’t like the last one either, why can’t hellomellow and me share our opinions about that?

Where exactly did you say “i didn’t like all the tunes”? I can’t find that text anywhere….  Please point it out for me, where you say those words…. the only text i can find is the text i quoted from you, saying “I WISH THEY NEVER DID THE LAST ALBUM”...  you also said “EVERYTHING is too pop-ish”, which implies you don’t like any of it…
I don’t expect everyone to like it…that’s not my point at all… i didn’t respond to Generix, because he simply didn’t like it, and expressed that fact…. what i objected to in your post was not that you didn’t like it…. it was that you wished it had never got made…  or “did”, to be precise, but i assume you mean ‘made’....
I don’t like everything about you… your face seems quite cute but your brain seems slightly retarded, but i would never say, “I wish your mother never did you”!

It’s not being childish to suggest that “i wish they never did the last album” was a bit strong….

HelloMellow - 10 September 2010 11:30 PM

I said that I didn’t like all the tunes. What is your problem?

Just read your post again… still don’t see that… can you show me?

HelloMellow - 11 September 2010 06:05 PM

You clearly have no idea what i think, as you can barely express what YOU think….

This is a forum, yes, and of course opinions are fine… there is much music i don’t like, including some of my own… i don’t feel compelled to go to any artist’s forum and tell them that i wish they had never made an album, but hey, that’s just me…. you can express anything you want… but likewise so can i:

I think it’s a bit strong to say “I wish that you had never made that album” - never even MADE it?
Not, “i don’t like it”... (you already said that and i didn’t object/comment) but wishing it never even existed?
And then because i express it in a slightly more flowery/poetic way i get called “a child”, and “fucking unbelievable”???
And then you start saying “That’s not what i said”.... Unfortunately for you, this is a forum yes, and so all your words are there for us all to read… nowhere in that post does it say “I didn’t like all the tunes”... so IT IS what you said that i quoted… (that’s kinda what a quote is… ) Do you need me to walk you through it again?

Anyone is allowed to express an opinion… i COULD call you a moronic turd, with minor retardation and limited grasp of the english language… i won’t… but my opinion is that it might be a bit strong to say “i wish you never existed”.

Anyway, you still didn’t answer my question…

Hallucinogen - 10 September 2010 08:44 PM

How do you feel about Justin Bieber?

What other albums do you wish had never got made? Just so i know what ballpark i’m in….

I think it is difficult to like everything an artist has made and inevitably each fan will have their own high point.  After that it is easy to see how people might be disappointed with a change in direction.

Change in direction is fundamental to the nature of Shpongle though.  Each album is something new to explore so it has to be considered a bit differently.
I admit it has taken me a while to “get” the last couple of the albums when they came out (I was first drawn in by Tales of the Inexpressible and then went back to Are You Shpongled - Nothing Lasts for example was quite a shock) but each offers something different and in time I’ve come to love them all.  I for one can’t wait to see what comes next (although Simon, please, Hallucinogen 3 first!).

I guess it is a testament to the passion of the fans that people feel so strongly and it’s great to have a forum where the artists respond.  I think the statement that the album should never have been made is a bit strong but I can kind of see where the sentiment comes from (I can think of one or two other artists - non-Twisted - that I’ve been very disapponted with in their later careers) but it is my choice to buy/not buy the new offerings.  If you love the earlier stuff and don’t like where the newer stuff is going then don’t buy it and enjoy what you’ve already got!

Exactly…. but wishing you hadn’t bought an album and wishing it had never been made are very different… One of them is imposing your will on potentially 1000’s of people… i guess i’m a bit more liberal than that….

I admit I tend to buy the later offerings (of artists that I feel have changed for the worse) anyway in the vain hope that there will be something in there that I like/grow to like - after all it is better to regret trying something and not liking it than to wonder “what if…?” and I can’t see how a (possibly disagreeable) later album can interfere with the enjoyment of an earlier one.

It’s not possible to please everyone all of the time though and I think a lot more people would be unhappy if you stopped making Shpongle albums! (Although like I said - Hallucinogen first! Please…)

I said that I wish you made an EP instead, implying that I like songs on the album but not every one of them… Sorry for not making that clear.

I just played ineffable mysteries to my grandfather from Trondheim in Norway. He’s 80 years old and had to tune his earpiece in order to hear properly inside my headphones.

His facial expression ranged from a deer caught in headlights, to deep reflection, to amusement. He said it sounded like music for “modern people” and was impressed with how it sounded classical, yet electronic and “computer-y”. The last time he heard “this kind of music” was by Terry Riley in the 1950’s.

The point of this post is to say that my grandfather is awesome, and that you’re plain wrong mellow.

I love “Shpongolese Spoken Here”!

Besides that I’m quite a bit of a dub fan (yay Ott!), I think the beginning of the track is pure brilliance. Listening to it in a sober state I first had the reaction of “What the fuck?”, but in other states the brilliance of the piece comes out instantly and I can just compare it to an “audio tickle” - the sounds just make you laugh (uncontrollably) and they… just… keep… on… coming! How they then echo allong in the rest of the track (th,the, the, people!) is highly enjoyable. I don’t know of any track tha has made me so happy in a very long time and I have seen it having the same effect on many others.

Big thanks for making and releasing this! smile

You are not alone dude, I wish they never did the last album. They should have made an EP instead. But that’s just my opinion.  The reason I didn’t like it is because it didn’t surprise me at all, everything was to pop-ish etc… Every other album I’ve been like “WHOAH! WTF is that sound? amazing!” now I was like: “meeeh”, so I hope they make a better album next time smile

+1

(but, simon, I’d like to be able to continue loving your music (that is: the “nothing lasts”-album), so don’t call me a “moronic turd, with minor retardation”, ok? peace)

i like electroplasm and some parts of the other tracks. really looking forward to shpongle 5!

I like “ineffable” a lot. I think it’s the best album after “Are you shpongled?”. Also very cool DVD. I can see Simon isn’t used to the harsh atmosphere on the net, but i wish him luck with Shpongle 5 smile

Also, please come to Sweden again! Loved your Hallucinogen gig in stockholm.
