Alright, now the yesmen have had their say I would like to stress my disappointment upon seeing Hallucinogen’s reply. It is a lame “copy-paste with changes” that just goes ad hominem and does not give any real answers.
Kybalion brought up a real issue (although it could’ve been worded without “fuck that shit”) and a real reply would’ve been better then just abuse.
I actually was at Ozora and at the main stage during the Younger Brother set. Personally I was in rapid but serious negotiations with the universe from “All I want” onwards and only got back to more propper dancing when the Prometeus set started… Ok, I was the one bouncing about in the back while many others were just standing there with their arms crossed. (Note: Someone on the stage repeatedly yelling “No safety in numbers” didn’t help the negotiations much.).
After Prometeus I was immediately asked “What did you think of the Younger Brother set” by probably the biggest fan of YB on this planet (I think he considers Hallucinogen to be the messiah). Because of the private nature of the negotiations with the universe I thought I’d give the neutral answer of “I think it went well enough” and got a reply in the line of “How can you say that?! It was terrible!”
From that moment on I heard all sorts of complaints and rumors from everyone I met at Ozora: “Who do they think they are? Cold Play?” “The singer was obviously drunk!” “Damn that guy can’t sing!” “They should’ve played Sziget, but probably aren’t good enough for that.” “YB has gone the way of Infected, next up: Simon will start rapping!” etc etc.
The main problem here is that YB played a rock set at a trance festival. This is not a problem with the music or the band, but with programming. People that come to a trance festival expect trance and else react badly - as Kybalion showed. (Perhaps that’s why the rap-rockband Infected Mushroom played Sziget?)
To take this out on the artists however is bad form, as the actual mistake lies with the festival programming. Artists will (and should) explore new horizons, programmers however should take care that they deliver their customers what they sold via marketting (in this case: “psychedelic electro”, not “psychedelic rock”).
In other words:
I, had a good time - regardless of how YB performed.
Kybalion, go complain to Ozora.
Hallucinogen, copy-paste replies are lame and don’t help
Oh, and on a side note: Prometeus did play several tracks from “Flocks of Bleeps”, which rocked without being rock music. (yay!)
