Hey, i’m looking for some interesting psytrance. Not the usual average stuff you hear a ton from out of every direction. Something truly innovative, detailed and psychedelic. Something that sounds as fresh as Hallucinogen or Prometheus. Any suggestions?

PS. don’t recommend Infected Mushroom or anything like them, they’re the epitome of average psytrance in my eyes.

Thanks for this post and I could do with some recommendations myself, the last decent album I bought was Logic Bombs from 2007 and these days I wouldn’t know where to start with good Psy..

Tip had a new compilation out the ‘White’ album I think it is but when I listened to the samples some of the tracks were not my kinda sound..

i guess i should add that i’d really like it if it was some psytrance with good melodies. can be glitchy and psychedelic as all hell, but i definitely would love me some good melody in there.

I personally have been pleasantly suprized by the “Liquid Records” label, which goes a tad further then your average “steady kick, bass and spacey sounds” but actually has inventive percussion and such. Highly recommended would be Slackbaba and Nagual Sound Experiment. “The Slack” was played quite often by DJs in the chill-out tent at Ozora Festival and as such I guess he’ll be getting bigger in the next year or two. This all is rather the “brit” sound though: while definitely psy, it also gets very close to beats, breaks, drum’n bass - rather then to trance.

I’ve been enjoying Bamboo Forest lately. Slackbaba is good for relaxing but no so much for fast trance.

ive been listening to a lot of manmademan. heard about it from this site. i push play, and laugh to myself that people say psytrance is dead.

Personally I really enjoy the (latest) releases from Nanorecords. The new albums by Chromatone, Avalon and the Master Blasters EP for example are very good.

And although you said don’t recommend Infected Mushroom, I’m still gonna do it: B.P. Empire is really a masterpiece raspberry

This topic pushed me to check back at Ektoplazm… I found this:

Cool stuff, and its a free listen.
Or you could check out Globular - but thats more of a ‘downtempo’ psychedelic listen.
The tribal psytrance is a good find for myself. Not sure how others feel…

Electrypnose - Where to go?

probably the most technical, psychedelic, yet musical psytrance album I’ve ever heard. Dude is on another level.

his psylectro album called Funked Up is excellent too.

you can steam all of his songs from his site http://www.electrypnose.com

Listened to much Psykovsky?

http://www.tantrummrecords.com/artist_psykovsky.htm

His live sets are pretty nuts.  I used to have an hour-long live set - I have no idea what show it was from, but it was insane.  Otherwise, he has a lot of stuff out there on various compilations.  Very dark with a lot of sampled sounds being mangled live.

Also, I recommend Audiovoid - not psytrance, but just awesome.

Zymosis is the same guy as Alienapia… not that I don’t endorse this recommendation smile

RA is amazing, e-Mantra is another goodie, and one of my current personal favorites is Artha. His album Influencing Dreams is the closest thing to Hallucinogen 3 that you are going to hear right now.

I’m not sure if it’s innovative, but I like what I like and I like Bliss. It’s fun and makes you want to dance… it has life, as opposed to a lot of the dark, boring, mathematical trance out there that takes itself so seriously. Bliss’ music has lots of energy.

Central Processing Unit is pretty good, too.
