Track called “Night Lead Me Astray” available on YB myspace here http://www.myspace.com/youngerbrothertwisted . Lyric haters need not apply. Personally, I have goosebumps. Really beautiful music, once again. Thanks again to YB for some new sounds for our ears!
Well, I knew this day was coming. Simon Posford has gone mainstream. Goodbye to the instrumental trance-inducing psychedelia of the pre-Shpongle 4 era. This is the cost of the desire to conform to ‘band’ standards in order to play live shows.
I would just like to add that you can still play live shows without centering on lyrics. Just become a jam-band. I think this would work really, really well with psychedelic music, especially with some trippy guitar filters/wah-wah etc. There’s only one loose example of this: Lotus (check out the album “Nomad”), which is a good example of a semi-trippy jam band / electronic fusion. But if Simon were to take that road and hire a good improv-guitarist, my god would that be epic. It would be adaptable to live shows whilst retaining psychedelic roots.
That’s easily the least cool thing I’ve ever read you type.
Also, did I not say lyric haters need not apply?
And calling this pop *edit* mainstream */edit* is so fucking short sighted… Maybe you should expand your taste in music if all you want is purely electronic?
*edit #2* I don’t like the idea of night leading me astray. I love the night, especially lately, throwing disc golf with LED’s taped on. My own personal UFO . Beautifully sung, but I dunno Ruu, you really want the night to lead you

I don’t generally like to hate, but I’m going with Cloudwalker on this one.
Calling this song pop (maybe not mainstream, though) isn’t short sighted as far as I’m concerned. If you hadn’t told me I was listening to YB, and asked if I thought that song was a new Coldplay or new YB song, I’d guess the former.
If we wanted to expand our tastes to pop, we’d go to artists that have and continue to produce pop.
Nobody said anything about expecting “purely electronic,” but in Night Lead Me Astray I don’t hear much of the “older” YB that I’ve come to love for the unique art they create.
Just my two cents. I don’t mean to hate, just disappointed.
fwiw, No Safety in Numbers sound like it’s going to be one brilliantly mad tune.
Agreed—and like I posted in another thread, I’ve had the Train sample from Pledge on repeat since they put it up. Simply a beautiful track.
I just read Ru’s blog post, and I respect YB for making the music that they love to make. Nobody can please everyone after all, and they clearly have many other tracks on Vaccine that I’ll be very interested in hearing.
Alright, I can respect your opinions. But they still rub me the wrong way, mainly because I f*cking HATE Coldplay. But this new YB does not bother me at all
Is it still fashionable to hate Coldplay? They’re really not that bad are they? Anyway, didn’t sound particularly Coldplayish to me, some of the guitar parts reminded me of The Editor’s which is no bad thing. Listened a few times, I think it’s a grower and I kinda expected this direction for the new album anyway, so it didn’t exactly take me by surprise.
I hope this album reaches out to a larger audience, YB’s talents need to be appreciated by as many people as possible.
Did anyone feel that with that tune they’re kinda reaching for another scene? I mean the arrangements, the sounds, everything sound SO much like something you would hear on a music channel on TV…Especially that part from 1:53 to 2:05, I mean that’s like WOW, I can’t hear none of the influences from any previous albums Simon or Benji has EVER made.
I don’t mean to judge or anything, it’s just a choice to follow this new direction for their music, but they’re gonna lay off loads of fans. You can already see that from comments on the facebook page. Lots of people seem to be dissapointed with it.
ps: I listen to jazz, rock, folk and lots of other things, so please I really don’t wanna hear that I’m an electronic purist either
We all know the remix is going to be beyond mindblowing so who cares if you don’t like this version, plenty of quality twisted electronica on the way.
I for one enjoy the original as a change of pace, I like Ruu’s voice and the emotion it evokes.
Just be patient and ignore the new track if you don’t like it, rest assured a version to suite your psy needs is on its way!
