Did anyone feel that with that tune they’re kinda reaching for another scene? I mean the arrangements, the sounds, everything sound SO much like something you would hear on a music channel on TV…Especially that part from 1:53 to 2:05, I mean that’s like WOW, I can’t hear none of the influences from any previous albums Simon or Benji has EVER made.
I don’t mean to judge or anything, it’s just a choice to follow this new direction for their music, but they’re gonna lay off loads of fans. You can already see that from comments on the facebook page. Lots of people seem to be dissapointed with it.ps: I listen to jazz, rock, folk and lots of other things, so please I really don’t wanna hear that I’m an electronic purist either
When I heard the track for the first time I was very suprised as to the overall feel of it and have since only listened to it about twice. It’s not one that really grabs my attention but overall is very nice. Ruu does have a great voice but if I didn’t know it was YB and heard it on BBC radion 2 in the middle of the afternoon at work my ears probably wouldn’t twitch. Saying that I can’t wait for the album and think it will be stunning.
As a side point with change of direction, another one of my favourite artists which were raw electronica who then turned their backs on it are Future Sound of London who mainly now just do their Amorphous Androgynus project in a very psychedelic way. Their stuff is great but I miss the absolute weirdness of it all.
Maybe these days Simon just prefers ‘jamming’ with other musicians than sitting on his ‘jack’ looking at a computer screen, I would proably say he’s mellowed a bit with age too so making raw trance doesn’t do it for him now. I don’t hold my breath for Hallucinogen 3.
