Great label, wondering what are the general favorites. Mine are as follows

1. Hol Baumann - Human. Such an amazing album. It’s almost perfect. I don’t know how much of you know Ulver, but they have an album called Perdition City and it quite reminds me of it. That plus some world music elements and a bit more glitchiness. Fucking great record.

2. Solar Fields - Movements. The best SF release imo. He uses a tad too much ambience for my tastes, and sometimes when i’m listening to him i’m like “...come on, something has to happen already”, lol. But an all around really great and original record. The Road To Nothingness caught me off guard the first time i heard it.

3. Asura - 360. Newest Ultimae release, as far as i know. Great stuff, his albums before didn’t do much for me. They all kinda suffered from lackluster production and mediocre ideas. This one is really good though, finds a great ballance between glitchy epxeriments and classic psybient elements.

4. Aes Dana - Leylines. Hmm, not much i can say about it other than it being a very good and unique record. Almost dark ambient like in some parts, i find it to be quite relaxing. Like with Asura, his other albums didn’t do much for me.

5. I Awake - The Core. Can’t say much about it either. I’ve only heard it a couple times, but i really like it. Worth exploring more, i would say.

Definitely “World of Sleepers” by Carbon Based Lifeforms… definitely… Its one of the few albums that can stand together with the likes of Shpongle, YB, (old) Infected etc. Very intricate, high production quality and excellent for meditative/chilled out states of mind but not too comatose/ambient (in fact it has great kick-bass lines) - which is my problem with a lot of the other stuff by Ultimae.

hmm… I’ve got a CBL album, but rarely listen to it. I might have another, but I do not find anything special about their releases… too full of ‘air’ and ‘space’ for me.

Their other albums I’m not too hot on either, but “World of Sleepers” I think is just great - also not for every occasion/time/atmosphere/setting obviously, but there’s no music that can do that anyways.

I love every Aes Dana release except Season 5. Too boring for my tastes. The rest of his albums, however, have such a dark, yet beautiful atmosphere and all sound different. Perfect.

I’ve got a whole bunch of Ultimae albums lying here and it depends on my mood which one I like but let me see…

Carbon Based Lifeforms: World of Sleepers is awesome, I could play that any time. I’m in love with Interloper too (especially track 4 to 10), it just fills me with peace. Can’t choose between them. Hydrophonic Garden is much appreciated too, though, but slightly less.

Solar Fields: at #1 is definately Leaving Home, for me it’s more special/deep/progressive than Movements, which is the second best album of Solar Fields and loved especially for the bass.. hmmm!! Haven’t really given his older work a proper chance yet.

Asura: his latest album 360 is a top-class, emotional, varying record. Recommended to anyone. Really satisfied with it! I’m also quite fond of his Life², although I haven’t been playing it much lately. I can remember that Life² did really take quite some time to grow on me.

H.U.V.A. Network: I’m really digging the ‘Live at Glastonbury 2005’ album, which is more or less Distances but then better. I also enjoy Ephemeris a lot, which is way more beat oriented but still meditative. It’s very nice for variation so I put it on quite often, for example when I’m cleaning…

When I’m in a more ambient mood I put on Cell - Hanging Masses, but I would not consider it one of my favorites. That’s kind of it. Not really original I suppose but who cares.

Never really got into Hol Baumann, I only really like one of his tracks (benares - varanaci edit) but maybe I should give it another try cause a lot of people really seem to like it!

I’m not a fan of Aes Dana’s albums, somehow it does not reach me. I’m missing something. It sounds quite boring to me most of the time. I’m waiting for more to happen but it doesn’t. Of course there is a lot happening but as I said it doesn’t reach me in the way it should.

Well, I can’t choose. I have 27 original Ultimae CDs ( albums and compilations ), and I love them all. Each release takes me to different places. One of my favorite labels for a long time now.

Check out these Ultimae related threads:

Well Ultimae has been mentioned so many times on the fourum and I follow them closely…favourite releases? hmmmm so many to choose from but the ones that get played the most are:

Solar Fields: Leaving Home as this album just floats along with such depth and then the part 2 more ambient follow on from this being Extended which uses sounds from the album. Extended was a limited release but so worth tracking down.

Carbon Based Lifeforms: World of sleeper..their music is so deep with alot of feeling in it.

James Murray: Where edges meet is Ultimae in vibe but with dusty beats in it.

HUVA Network Live: Again a limited release but more musical than the studion albums and has a great intro as it was from Glastonbury 2005.

Faranheit Vol 5: I think this is the one with Cell - Erasing Pluto on it and all the other tracks are quality too, a great journey.

And following closely behind:

Solar Fields: Movements, Altered, Blue Moon Station.
Albedo compilation.
Imaginery Friends Compilation.
I-Awake album.

The list goes on…. grin

I need to get the new CBL and Asura soon too…

So World Of Sleepers is pretty boring, but CBL’s new album Interloper is really good.
