Well, I’ve given this a pretty good listening to now, sat in the park at lunch and listened to it on the ipod, felt almost spring like and Mir was the perfect soundtrack. It’s pretty much everything I hoped for in an Ott album, although I doubt there’s anything Ott could produce I wouldn’t like.. but where Blumenkraft stil ranks in my top 10 albums, Skylon didn’t quite rock my world in the same way, Mir is definitely right back up there for me, I’d say it’s almost a perfect listening experience. The intro is amazing, it’s like an audio “doorway” welcoming you into some magical land and the last track is the perfect ending, love the intro words on that.. and in between Squirrel and Biscuits is a highlight for me, although I’m struggling to find a favourite as every track is awesome.. and did I mention the bass?
I’ve been through each track about 2-3 times so far but havent been able to listen to them all on studio headphones or monitors yet. This album is definitely not what I was expecting but i’m quite pleased that it branched so far away from blumenkraft and skylon while still having tons of sections that just scream “Ott was here”
I think my favorite track is definitely the aubergine of the sun. Such a smooth, slow and steady progression with lots of great warbly synths and interesting instrument variations. I cant be certain but it sounds like there’s a synthy effected vocal ~3:30 that one only wishes to be naked nick in something of a queen of all everything reprise. Also I can only hope that the bass in the beginning is warwick bassmonkey But I could just be dreamin, what do I know..
A nice little place is also pretty far up there I think. Such a beautifully atmospheric and relaxed track. That really fast kalimba or whatever it is sound is really quite pleasant
One thing I’m not quite sure I like though (and I feel like a twit for being critical of absolutely anything, but i’ll mention it just cause i’ve been thinking it over) is that the swoopy dubstepish bass sounds a bit too similar and repetitive to me across a few of the tracks. To me it sounded a bit muffled and didnt have that big rubbery punch you hear in the other albums. But I do like that its a different sort of timbre and style, and like I said, I havent listened to the whole thing on a decent set up yet, so I’ll digress
Anyways I really must say i’m massively satisfied with the album as a whole and cant wait to dig into it deeper with repeated listens. I’m sure i’ll also have a whole new found appreciation for it all after seeing some of it played live on the 26th
I’m still getting into it. I have to give it a good hearing before making a whole valoration, but I like to see (hear in fact) that OTT is keeping his unique style/sound.
One of my favs (that caught my attetion mostly): Squirrel and Biscuits and Mouse Eating Cheese.
Well done Mr.OTT
Mir sounding as a very good album.
This album is just amazing. My favorite? Owl Stretching Time!
This is possibly the most “psychedelic” song I’ve ever heard (in my opinion, obviously).
Mouse Eating Cheese, Hilbert Space, and Squirrel And Biscuits are not far behind, I love them all! I also love the ‘dubstep’ influences (the groovy wobble-basslines). However, I think Ott puts this motif to better use than the entirety of the dubstep genre
Also, I was fortunate enough to be able to see Ott throw it down in Fayetteville last night! Here is my Youtube channel if you’d like to check out some clips of the show: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheBrianIsaac

Ott played 4 new songs!
What a fucking brilliant night. Ordinarily I’d have been wary of a Tuesday night in Arkansas but I had such a great time last time I played in Fayt’ville that I kind of knew it was going to be good.
Downloaded the FLAC from the site last night and gave it a first listen this morning, well impressed and for me A nice little place and Aubergine of the sun are my stand out tracks so far. I’ll buy the cd too when it becomes available…
This is really a great album, and it’s nice to hear new sonic paths being explored. It’s been on repeat here since the release and I’m loving it more and more. Standout tracks are #1 - That intro is sublime and gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it, #4, #5 - Would love to hear more tracks like this, and #7. The rest are growers, and I’ll probably end up loving them as well. So all in all, great album, Ott!

Did we meet and, if so, which one were you?
We did meet actually! My name was Brian and we met and shook hands when you were setting up right before going on. I was the one in the very front during the show, right in front of your red Dell.
I was also the one who was air-drumming all of the timbale parts, which prompted you to laugh, look down, and say “Hey! You know it!” Haha
(wakes up smiling) I love this album. Just awesome. Still high.
My Thoughts exactly! Left his show last night and immediately put it on, woke up this morning put it on again… Drive to work? yup. At work? Yup. Just incredible!
The alan watts speech on the first song just sends chills down my spine. What a perfect lead in to an amazing album.
And his show last night was top notch, took them awhile to iron out some bass kinks but once they did they Ott and phuturprimitive put on a great set.
Pleasure meeting you last night man! Thanks for all the hard work you put in to the tour/music. It has done nothing but bring me pure joy. (if you cant tell im cheezing like a kid on christmas)
Yah.. well. to be honest…....... umm, new Ott album is full of…..
Guite much pure win. ^^
This seem to sink on me a bit better than the previous album, skylon - which also have grown on me eventually - where Skylon feels really smoothened, and round, this album maintains the smoothness and yet manages, for me atleast - to add some edge to it.
No need to analyze production or anything - it is top knotch as already years and years ago im used to get from ott.
No favorite tunes at the moment, only listened to this one briefly - and knowing that it would take a good “sit down and relax” session to sink in properly, im still waiting for the right moment.
Anyways - feels like there is something “old” and yet something fresh - its Ott, yet with new twists - excatly how it is supposed to be.
